I'm planning on doing a recon on Nov 29th. If when I get there, things are not looking good (i.e., no base to cover the rocks), I'll get in a few runs at Wildcat.

Anyone else planning on heading up?

If you go, have a little thought for the ones on the place last year, same date... and be careful !

11-29-2002: (Excerpted from Snowranger Chris Joosen's report) Seven climbers were involved in a climber triggered class 2 slab avalanche in Tuckerman Ravine. Four individuals were buried, two partially and two completely. One of the partially buried climbers (Matt) had only his forearm and hand above the surface and the other (Richard C.) had some of his pack and shoulder exposed. The two complete burials both resulted in fatalities

Can't make it then, but definitely looking forward to all reports, as I will be in town the middle of December. I am hoping to be able to hike up and ski down the Sherburne.

Let's all pray(to anyone who will listen) for snow.

Good reminder Frank. I was not even thinking about that and it was only a year ago. However, I will keep in mind the lessons to be learned from those two events. IT would not be the first time that I hiked to the base of the bowl or just to Ho Jo's only to turn around and board down.

Thanks 10-7 !

NJAB : Yeah, I imagine that this is the sad, but good, decision to take... stopping on on the ravine's floor or at Hojo's. At least, if the Sherburne offers great skiing/boarding, it surely worth the hike !

500 !

Yep,

It seems that no matter what you can see from the road below, or what the weatherman says, or what they're saying at the lodge, you never know what the conditions will be until you get there. So, it’s best just to expect the worst. And the Sherburne eary season has been awesome on occasion.
