Just got back from a level II avy course at Alta where I earned a lot of new info about collecting data from snowpits to evaluate snow stability. While we did our data collection in paper notebooks, one of the instructors mentioned that there is a website where you can download software for your palmpilot that makes it much easier to collect and plot your data as well as share it with fellow snow scientists via the internet. Here's the link:
http://www.snowpilot.org/downloads.html
(Not that if you don't have a Palm Pilot, you can still collect the data and type it into your computer to share with fellow BC travellers.)
No one in NE seems to be using this, but I think it would be a good supplement the Mt WA avy report, particularly for GOS or other areas outside the routine forecast area. As soon as we get some more snow I'm planning on going to Mt WA to dig some snowpits (hopefully practice will improve my skill) and will post results when I get a chance.
