Great pics! It looks like a fairly uncrowded section of The Long Trail too. I just hiked the long trail up mount mansfield last wed, and hardly went 20 minutes without seeing another group. Not to mention the 30 people at the summit!

Not to mention the 30 people at the summit! Mansfield is a great hike, but it is always crowded up there. On this hike I think we saw a total of 7 other people (after we left the shelter). I prefer not seeing a million people on a hike, that's my only problem with Mt. Washington-- too crowded.

Elwood - I agree with your re: Mt Washington being too crowded. When I hiked to the summit a couple years ago, there was literally a LINE of people going up. Kinda defeats the purpose of a good hike to me. Mt Adams I found to be much more enjoyable, no cars, maybe 2 people. Nobody looking at you like you have 12 heads b/c you hiked up when you could have DROVE!!

I agree with you both (Kmrnskier & Elwood). On my hike up, even though the weather wasn't very good, it was almost a line of hikers to the summit, more than 100-200 persons certainly at the same moment on the 0.6 mile between Tucks and the summit. Also, it was a little bit like a shame. The tiny rock hill where there is the 6288' banner was ultracrowded and 90% of the people posing proudly on pics had climbed with their car ! lol. I don't have nothing against the auto road, but seeing them so proud was really ridiculous.

I always kind of laugh when people talk about tucks as wilderness. Tucks sees more traffic than a lot of towns traffic on main street. Don't get me wrong, I love the place but at times it reminds me of going to a zoo...just the hike is a bit more demanding. However Tucks mid winter is special.

The single looks almost forlorn in lonliness.

Castlrock looks WAY different with no :snowflakes:

Castlrock looks WAY different with no :snowflakes: The single felt forlorn... It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop up there. The wind would kick up a little, and the chair would start to creak... It was kind of creepy. I would have felt better if there was snow there...

It is funny, I can ride down most steep stuff no worries. But when I am out hiking in the off season on some steep or exposed pitch I get all sketched out. I really don't feel as confidant walking as I do with a snowboard lashed to my feet.

Working nights on Blackcomb was kinda creepy too. All alone, on a huge mountain. I was stalked by a bear, had a tree come down in front of my skido. Was shoveling snow off the deck in a thunderstorm with lightening all around me. The noises that a quiet lodge makes as it is straining under the weight of the snow on the roof is kind of unnerving.
