You seem to be like me. I'm assuming your at work punching code. I'm working at a Helpdesk so I'm fixing stuff. But I usually always have this page open for the day. Especially lately.

I'm designing and coding a smart database backup system for a big Durg company. It interacts between UNIX and MVS.

I submit MVS jobs and they just sit out there...
And I twidle my thumbs waiting....
Thank God for the board....

Yup I hear ya...a lot of down time here between calls as well. This week has been slow, last week was a little crazy trying to beat the clock getting all our machines patched before we got hit.

I have the same deal as you guys... I do network support. If calls aren't coming in I get to surf the board... Although with all the virus nonsense going around, calls keep coming in. Then I surf the board while I remove viruses... Damn blaster and sobig...

I heard PC's infected with SoBig are supposed to download a trojan today.... YIKES!!!!!

Sobig hasn't been to much of a problem for us. It's slowed our mail servers down a bit but they seem to be holding up well. As a precaution we are taking all PC's down over the weekend.

Elwood, you can only do so many virus scans at a time. At the most I was running 5 at time. That's my limit...no more.

Hey Elwood. I just remembered seeing one of the soBig.F emails yesterday with your email on it... I should have saved it for you. I'm not suggesting you sent it... I recognized a number of email addresses that came along with SoBig... was just a co-incidence.

Get me a job in Burlington...
Are there any jobs in Burlington? There are a few jobs up here, but a couple of problems:

1) I'm sure you get paid more down in NYC, and
2) IBM just laid off a bunch of people up here, so the ratio of jobs>people in I.T. is not the best right now...

It's not about the $$$ - It's about the lifestyle and the fact that it's close to Jay Peak...

:) :) :)

I do I.T. support as well, more on the desktop level but lots of phone work with sales reps, & some server maintenance as well. Luckily I work in the snowsports industry, so it helps me enjoy my job that much more. -Ski&Ride

DMC, I just sent you a link for some job openings... Check it out and see if anything is relevent... I'll look around some more for you. I hear you about not being about money, but the lifestyle... That's exactly why I am still up here! (Otherwise I'd prolly be living down in NJ with you.. YIKES!)

Great Dave...

One question though...

He's pointing up on the summit... Is there a way to go higher? A special elevator or staircase?

elwood
08-22-2003, 03:41 PM
That's right Dave!

"Keep going up"

I remember the first time I climbed Mt. Washington. I kept asking people how much further it was to the top. Everyone kept telling me it was 15 minutes, even though I had a couple of hours left!

LOL... yupper... I do that to people too. The old 'almost there' joke works well to entice newbies who are pooped out after 15 minutes.

I just hate climbing all the way to the summit, then suddenly your surrounded by the french fry crowd stuffing their faces... oh forgot... most of you being in the states call them home fries or something. Or is that potato fries, string fries, crispy taters? gad Friday can't remember. Please correct my lingo.

Good stuff DMC... well at least the UNIX part (don't know MVS). Love working with an O/S that actually works and requires runs 1000 faster than windslows and the like. Unix runs flawless!... you won't find T4T on any Microsoft platform.

I spend the last few days bombarded with emails from the SoBig.F virus. Since SoBig reads .html files on the infected machine looking for email address to send to (which includes browser cache), I get loads of email from infected machines who have been to sites where my email exists. Yesterday I was receiving an average of 5 per minute. Norton sure was busy!

Now if only Billy Gates would stop being so cheap and buy up some :ducttape: to fix his bug ridden software...

Imagine if our cars had this many problems? The manufacturer would be out of business in a month!

(somehow this post got out of order... too many windows up... fit it in wherever it goes)

We run my site www.powderhound.org (http://www.powderhound.org) on LINUX...

It's great... Never worry...
I got a PC at home that I put LINUX on to try and do some gaming but then I got an XBOX... Bill Gates sucked me in again... :)

MVS is just a huge operating system thats been around forever... I'm using it mainly for it's tape drives... Our DBMS is attatch to MVS and UNIX... The requests to archive and the coresponding SQL statements are built on UNIX then executed on MVS...

I really do love UNIX .... Once you learn it there's no turnng back...

Is TFT Apache?

Pretty cool..

Yeah Dave, I know I have not been infeted by sobig, even tho you saw my email addy. All of my pc's are locked up tight...

Speaking of cars/windows platforms... It would suck if your car would just stall out every so often for no reason. Car consumers wouldn't stand for that, but Windows consumers accept it as the norm... funny

Not that I want to defend the evil empire but...

I keep my Windows PCs up to date with the Winblows Update software and I never have crashes... My Palm Pilot crashes more than my PC's..

Got 98,2k server and XP Home... Blue screen maybe twice on the 2k Server...
