I remeber reading about a group that skied one of the main gullies on Lafayette. IIRC, it was a pretty good trip with a decent amount of skiable vert. Definitely looks promising. Add it to the list...

If I squint and look real hard I'm pretty sure I can see a graphic ****o pic... I'm just hoping you are talking about the same thing, because otherwise I'm going to look like a real pervert.

A project. :)
A project indeed.
Too many projects, too little time...

You're going to have -so- many projects once you're in UT...
If you don't already own it, this can help keep track ;)

and that's the tip of the iceberg.

hmmmmmm..... Why yes i do...
Was wondering why after seeing it yesterday - I was feeling like I used to when i climbed the rope in gym class...
I wonder if Brad saw it too???
If I were Lafayette - I think I would get that bare patch to the right looked at by a Doc.....
That would be Lincoln's little problem!

Is that Lafayette? Looks a tad like looking east at Jefferson with a big of Adams showing on the left.. but then again looking west at Lafayette is a possiblity.

Looks to me a lot like the east face of Lincoln. For comparision, this shot taken from Haystack:

Ok i looked it up and a agree that it looks like lafayette although it is probably airbrushed. The actual pictures of it look good. Have any of you skied it? It looks like a long walk it. Any thoughts.

not me, but check the pics at the end of this TR. Looks like "a hike up it until you feel uncomfortable, then click in and go" kind thing. figure about 2.5 mi in and 2500 vert. depending on turnaround. not that i've thought about it or anything...

Some guys shoed in via the drainage to climb the central gully on Lincoln two years ago and reported that skinning would have been better. That brook while skiable is an objective hazzard as there will be voids in many places. Still, if there is a lot of cover it should be a very doable trip.
David's TR photos are some of the driest midwinter shots of Lafayette that I have seen. I have been up there when the snowfield was immense and continuous for 500 or more feet....we were building igloos near the summit.
I have some other objectives....but another would be nice....

It could be pretty hairy from the top; WI3 is pretty steep. This is the part that I would not want to ski: http://www.neice.com/Articles/mt_Lincoln/IMG_0792.jpg

For reference, Central Gully, in Huntington's is only rated a WI2 (for 20 feet, at the very bottom) and very few people ski it. Some stuff in Tucks is rated a WI3 but that fills the bowl in.
I have heard of people who have skied off the backside of Lincoln/Lafayette, then hiked back up.

Very informative first post!
In terms of the WI3 in Tucks, would that be the left of left ice climb?
:)

I am not sure what the climbs in Tuckermans are named. Before the snow blows in there the ice really comes in nice.

yeah, to the left of left gully there's usually a huge ice climb, i've heard it called left of left, but am not entirely sure...

It could be pretty hairy from the top; WI3 is pretty steep. This is the part that I would not want to ski...That report is of the Lincoln slide, the Lafayette slides are further in (North) on the Walker Brook drainage, but they appear to fill in with snow. I refered to the report due to Doug's description of the streambed for the approach. Alpine start would be mandatory as it is a long way in to the base of Walker Ravine on Lafayette.
Here is what they did:

I have heard of people who have skied off the backside of Lincoln/Lafayette, then hiked back up.I heard that too, but details were a bit thin. Still, dropping into slides is one of the best features of NE BC.

:)"Left of Left" is the common name for the great, blue, plastic-fantastic formation. There are some named sections: The Dihedral and CenterLeft, but as they vanish in December few use the names, Sluice is a really wild Ice Climb on the right margin of the Sluice...That's the ice that usually pounds Lunch Rocks in the spring.

wonder if it was like this? ;)

The ice above Lunck Rocks, that gets climbed? Thats pretty intense.
I thought it was called left of left, it is certainly the most noticable ice feature in the spring ravine.
