I've been doing tons of hiking this past spring-summer and plan on skiing all the slide paths I can get time for. I know it's early to post here but looking at the 1990 slide on the back of Colden last week has me dreaming about skiing. Not many of my hiker friends are willing to do the backcountry ski thing, so I I figure I may be able to meet some folks on here. I have to confess though, I still have not made the pigrimage to tux yet. This will be the year.

I was just looking at the South Slide on Colden yesterday and was thinking snow! I live down in New Paltz but can make it up to the ADK's for at least a few weekends. physicsfrac@yahoo.com

I will be up there the 2nd weekend in October "cleaning up" some secrets for this winter....Dude, I am not gonna make over there this year...and that so bums me out. Let me know when you are getting up here, you'll need to ride the new 'chuck....it's a serpentine pipe perfect for ripping on boards or tele sticks.

So my tentative list is: Traverse Colden. up the trap dyke, down the SE slide. Bennies Brook slide on LWJ. Of course, Marcy and Wright on the ski trails. The new illegal ski trail cut on Phelps. The east dix slide. Slide on macomb. The nippletop slide. The 5 a slide on Kilburn. And the grandaddy of them all, the ermine brook slide on santanoni. This is just a short list of 50 or so slides/ski runs in the high peaks area that I know of. I plan on finishing my winter 46 this season also, so I might as well ski as many as possible. I usually post on adkhighpeaks.com but it's mostly about hiking.

Excellent! We will get along nicely! Ive done the Memorial Slide(aka Kilburn) and wrights ski trail, as well as some other secrets.......

Colden has long been on the list...the traverse sounds cool. Although i like to ride down what ive already climbed, im familiar with the SE slide. If the legs work, ascend through the trap then up and down the SE...then beck up the SE and back down through the trap if cover provides or the far west ramp....lots of vert....LONG day.

Been up the Macomb slide...not bad, a good yo-yo slide. Can you link that with the East DIX slide? Im ashamed to say im not familiar with that one.....

Phelps "trail" is also sweeeeet!

Now the Santanoni slide....that sounds sweet. Id like to see some pix if ya got em....PM me :D

Anyway....it seems our lists are almost identical. Short of some secrets ill share later. I wont finish my winter 46 (got my summer) before i move, but that will maybe encourage me to come back occasionally.

So you have done the new phelps trail? I hear it starts behind the klondike notch lean-to. I know the trap dyke has been skied, but I've climbed it in summer, it looks a little beyond my grasp. The SE slide looks very skiable, probably right off the summit. I was on top of Gothics last march watching guys drop in on the north face. That looked a bit nutty also. I'm a 46er too. I would like to hook up for some skiing this winter. One of my buddies may tag along--he snowboards though. I haven't been on the ermine brook slide yet. I might get on it before the snow flies, as I plan on bushwacking little santanoni from it. I know santanoni was traversed last winter, up panther brook, down the slide. Lots of riding to be had in the high peaks.

Ooo...I guess i did the "old" phelps trail....now im really interested!!!

Ive seen pix of people skiing both the trap and SE slides....the trap needs ALOT of snow though. If not, ICE GEAR and a rope if you want that route. SE slide def looks sweet...an easy approach if we skirt round the back colden and then up it.

Angel slide is long on the list and close. But bring your AVY gear....well, bring it for any of the slides.

I think top on the list for me is True North. LONG day, but worth it from what i hear.

Def up for getting some of these projects done this winter. I splitboard and have some friends here that will HOPEFULLY tag along also.

Affix - checked out Isabelle Glacier on Saturday, about a 40minute drive from here, about 1 1/2 - 2 hour hike to get to mid glacier (that's moving time). We have no "working" cameras anymore (thanks to puppy being chew happy a while back), so no pics like usual. Looks like there could be a ton of undermining mid/low glacier. The side we were on is solid and oh-so-nice. We had no equipment, but we did do a ton of "boot skiing" on various itty-bitty glaciers.

I'm ALWAYS up for slides... Only problem is that them thar hills are quite some distance from Maine. That and I know NOTHING about 'em. But if you need skiing/skinning/avy prepared partners -- Keep me in the loop!
