It's official! After 2 months of holding my breath and lots of hoping and meditating on the issue... My girlfriend has accepted a job offer at KSL in Salt Lake City! As some of you know, I am building a house, so I have to finish that before I can go anywhere. I'm hoping to be putting the last pieces of carpet and flooring down by New Years, and then I'll be looking to rent the house out (possibly sell) and then my :bum: is getting out to Powdah powdah powdah! As long as I find a cool roomie, I'll be able to find all available floor space needed for a week trip out if ya'll need a cheap place to stay. I'm so jittery with anxiety! WOOHOO!!! :simpsons:

:( I was indeed. Too much work, not enough play... I'm looking forward to being within 45 minutes of OH SO MUCH.

I do hope to be out there by Feb- we will see how life plays itself out. I'll be keeping in touch here for you guys to make plans to come out.

S&R- You and Lisa going to have any hockey games out this far, or is that strictly a NE league?

It's a MA league sanctioned by USA Hockey, so it stays in MA unless we get to Nationals. But as a team we can travel to tourneys in U.S., Canada, etc. I must admit if/when I travel to UT during ski season , I won't be playing hockey! :) Looking forward to hopefully playing in powdah out there this winter - I'll let you know!

You are so lucky! :D :D :D

hey thx man... It was only a matter of time before things fell into place for me. :)

Hey does anyone know how the general mountaineering/ ice climbing is out there? I'd imagine pretty damn good, but who knows, maybe they have TOO much fluffidy duffity. I think I'm going to re-take up my interest in big mountain climbs as well. Some-how, somewhere in college I gave up thinking about big climbs, but no more. Denali, eat my dust.

Can't speak too much on ice (bridal veil falls in provo canyon, lower end of LCC i've herd re quite good) mountaineering is pretty good with some technical lines throughout the range, but don't plan on multiday mountaineering - the range just isn't that big. you're rarely more than a few miles from a road. Lone Peak wilderness might be a notable exception in the winter. the peaks are not huge either (highest is about 11,900), but the Unitas to the east can get you up to 13,500.

having said that, the mountaineering scrambles in the wasatch are fantastic! SE ridge of superior, wildcat ridge, monte cristo to dromedary to the twins, devil's castle traverse, etc. etc. etc. It's great stuff that doesn't need a rope, but will certainly get your attention.

ran across this thread on ttips if you hadn't seen it yet:

(PM me - i'd be happy to answer any specifics, too)

you're a lucky man. my time out there was a blast.

Welcome!
I'd say there's a fair amount of mountaineering out here, although i dont do much myself, mainly ski touring/resort skiing. I'd look at www.telemarktips.com forum, maybe search for posts or threads by trackhead, he does a fair amount of ski mountaineering, and makes cool videos :)

Lots of good skiing of course, you'll love it out here. The main thing is that the mountains and snow are so good and sooo close.

teletips is also a good resource as far as finding out what SLC is like, where to live depending on your religious/political persuasion (yes, it matters). Try doing searches for past posts, or post something yourself.

As a warning, I don't know if you're mormon, but KSL is very mormon, i think it might be owned by the church. Just something to keep in mind..

anywho, enjoy!

The crew at Black Diamond Equipment seems to get out for all sorts of interesting things on any given day....seems that was part of the reason for that location....

Rumor has it that the fly fishing is pretty good too.

Obviously the skiing so close is my preference for SLC... We'll see how I like it. My girlfriend seemed to not have a problem during the interview and recent getting to know everyone at the station (KSL) and she's Jewish. She said she found 3 synogogues thus far. We'll see how me being half christian (catholic originally)/ half buddhist will like it. All I really need is a 3x3 section of floor in my room that is quiet.

Maybe I'll see ya out there in a few months!
