Pretty cool - a neat idea. I wonder how many of those devices he's integrated actually make it very high on the mountain in practice. My lack of high altitude mountaineering may really show through here, but things like a GPS, PDA would be the things i'd be ditching to save weight (assuming the route's well wanded!).

Hmmmmm....gadgets are fun but a burden the higher you go. Apple even put a 10,000' altitude limit on their iPods.... I haven't had any issues up to 14,650' so far.

Curious indeed....

That kinda makes me think of Bond.....James Bond.

Hey, can you really bring an iPod up above 10K without it blowing up?
Scared to take it out west, and thats what I bought it for

Scared to take it out west, and thats what I bought it for  I've used it at altitude several times without problem..... issues may be with the battery and premature draining.(Cold temps does it) Think of it as behaving like a PC at altitude... it is essentially the same thing. Some argue that the HDD spins faster due to the thinner atmosphere.... Not so sure about that.

Just keep it somewhat warm, not hot and avoid bouncing. So don't be using a pogo stick at 14,000' while listening to scottish bagpipes with your iPod. And keep that kilt down! It'll scare the wildlife! http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Skiing with it in your chest pocket should be fine.... that's how I carry mine.
