View Full Version : Musicians
We all know SaxMan is the leader of the band when it comes to tux, but who else on this board makes their own music?
I play piano the most (baby grand and a hammond organ), but have been learning guitar (fender acoustic) the last couple years. I learned to play the recorder (crappy yamaha plastic one, really gotta invest wood) for the express purpose of being able to bring something to Tuckerman.
This year I'm asking santa for a sax-a-ma-phone.
So, next year's T4T trips, what's the band going to consist of? We should probably start working on a setlist so we know the chords.
ME!
But... I doubt I'll get a drumset up to the shelters... :(
I LOVE DRUMS!!!!!! (http://www.mindspring.com/~dougcox/DRUMS/)

I don't play anything, but the boyfriend before hubby was a musician. Does that make me the groupie?

M@ stay with what you know best... I suggest a a 'ductcorder' or a 'ductaphone'. :p
Mumster:
Does that make me the groupie? Only if you ***** the band... ;)
I forget what ***** even meant now....
DMC: You got a portable drum?
Mumster: Sounds like the band still has an opening for Front Person. You know the words to "We're not gonna take it?"
No need to carry a tune... The ravine corrects for non perfect pitch, a rarley known acoustical property of Tuckerman.

DMC - ***** means a 5 star rating. I'd give his band a ****1/2 rating...it was pretty good.
Definitely didn't ***** the band. -> Better downgrade groupie to a lower level of support. ;)
M@ - I'd have to give that some thought.
Been meaning to add a dejumbe to my current drumset... I should have one my then...
Of course - I could bring a snare/highhat and a bassdrum pedal that I could just attach to a box or something... Like Jackson Brown did on that road song on "Running On Empty".. It would only add 10 pds. to my gear.... YIKES!!!!
I'm a sucker for a good jam!!! Lets do it...
TFT Live at Hojos deck!!!

If I'm having a good day...
If the anti-shyness situation is just right...
If I remembered to bring one...
I have been known to play a few licks on the old harp, Blues Harp, that is.

I dance with the devil and spin vinyl. So I guess that would make me the enemy from a musician point of view. No worry's I'm not dragging a Technic 1200 anywhere near the ravine. They weigh a ton. That's what the mini disc player, saxman and the TFT band is for.
I love playin a gig with a DJ... DJ's are right on starting the music after the set ends... Plus they play the same style of music we play as well..
If we do this - I'm recording it on MD to be sure...

I played a gig with a band once. I mostly dropped basslines and simple drum beats which was fun. During sound check the drummer and I played around a bit. I love percussion so it was a ton of fun.
I jammed with a DJ once on my electronic kit...
It was a wild jam...
All the kids were "rollin'" - all they wanted was a beat and some trippy sounds...
I really do want to jam at Hojo's...

I have a Djembe and used to play in a Celtic Pipe Band sponsored by a micro brewery.
I used to play alto sax and ukelele too. I was asked to audition for the director of the vienna boys choir when I was 9. I could still sing a bit too.
The T4T Band needs a name.
How about:
The Naked References
The Head-Wailers
Ravine Change
The Lip
Lunch Rockers
Bannick: Do you have a ukelele?
Mumster: Do you have a tamborine?
Hopefully not "Crash and the Burn"!!!

Hmm, considering the poor M@, I think I'm better not to say that I play flute for 15 years.... I played Clarinet, Piano and a little bit of sax in my teenage, but this was really just for fun. (flute too)
I wouldn't bring a flute or so in the ravine... don't want to be responsible of a wet slide ;)

Oh... you mean snow... sorry... :)
The poor Matt might show you a few licks. Every thing I've ever played has been 100% for fun, other wise I wouldn't do it.

I like "The Head-Wailers"

I think it would be kewl to have a tamborine on the outside of your pack as you hike up.
Hey Mrs. Tamborine Mum, play a song for me.
When you hike to the ravine, you'll be following me.
Too funny!

I used to play cello, guitar, and piano, but have not done so for many years. I see the tambourine has been snagged. Maybe I can dance in the background and go "doo waa waa"?

You can NEVER have enough girls playing tamborine... ;)
Mumster... Just stop into a music store.. They all have tamborines... I got few too...

Yeah, we need a couple girls on tambo-ra-mines, probably in tight black dresses, and the encore will be "Great Gig in the Sky"

Chicks dig Front Men..... Didn't Zappa write about that saying something about that is the reason why keyboard guys invented those over the shoulder guitar-like keyboards so they could make it up to the front and dance around to pick up chicks???
We outlawed our keyboard player from using his "key-tar" at gigs or any other time...
It's how should I put it without offending anybody... gay...
KeyTars are pretty gay. I used to only play keys, and tried one once, and it was a total piece of crap expeirence. If you're playing good keyboard you're using both hands. If you're just a backup singer using a keyboard instead of your voice, the keyTar might work.
All that said: I saw Wakefield and his son play, and they each had a big ass keyboard stack, but for one song they did dueling keyTars and it was really kinda fun to watch.

Let's see. I used to be able to play guitar. A little bit. Maybe. On good days.
Oh well, I'll stick to the CD/radio tuning scene for now. Oh, I can watch & listen to music too!

After the last Trey show at the Memorial I went to Nectar's to catch a late night show. It was a band from Boston called Booty Juice. The keyboardist in that band played a keytar. Let me tell you, that band kicked sas. I have a new found respect for the keytar after that show. Of course, I want to see them again for a real judgement, because the chocolate might have distorted my vision and hearing a little...
