I'd be there tomorrow (any TFTers in the Boston area want to carpool?) if they were going to open. Do they have a projected date? how many days warning do they give?

The fever builds beginning of October...
Usually you get a day or two warning..
I have to call friends up there to get the real scoop...

It depends on my recovery rate - (which is excellent thus far...)
And the exact date - I had to sacrifice most weekends in Sept and Oct to clear my weekend schedule for the winter.
Another option is watching for e-savers to Denver. From Philadelphia it takes no more time to fly to Denver than to drive to K-Mart.
Yes - but the drive from the Denver Airport in Kansarado to the areas takes a couple hours on top of the flight...

Good point, but let's be serious - Summit County v. K-mart?
You gotta love Summit County - :lips:

I love Summit Co... My favorite is A-Basin...
I love that whole Pavalchini(sp) area... Rock Garden is pretty sweet...
And climbing those chutes on the East Wall reminds me of Tucks...
We climbed up to the top one year from the side to drop in the chutes. I almost collapsed from the altitude - good thing i brought a beer with me.. :)
Plus after skiing you can head up rt 6 and ski the Continental Divide..
Then head over to the Breck Brew Pub for sweet reward!!!

Usually don't pay much attention to K-Mart opening until they blow the mice out which is usually the first night with 29 degree temps. The watch starts after that. My guess for this year is October 24. I admit that I'm more than a little curious about when Tenney opens though. Getting a little tired of the K-mart marketing B.S. of being the first to open. Last year they kept up with the first to open even though there was a place in Connecticut (I think it was CT)that opened 5 days before K-Mart.

Do you think there's actually mice in those hoses?
Can you picture those poor mice getting blasted across the Canyon...
---- I digress...
I only pay attention to a couple of sources up a Killington when it comes to the October thing...

DMC: I'll meet you down there. I'd like to jump in your truck for that ride up to the canyon... I have inside sources that work for the mountain. I can get daily updates and post them here on the board. Let's coordinate a T4T K-mart opening day trip!!!

Surfy : the ski area that opened before Killington, last year, is Woodbury, in Connecticut and opened 1 day before Killington, on october 24. I even have a pic of that day ;) . Wild Mountain (Minnesota) and Trollhaugen (Wisconsin) also claim to be the first ones to open in the "east" as they opened on oct 23 and 24. Killington opened on oct 25, followed by La Réserve on oct 26.

this summer stuff is getting way too long for me... The snow conditions for the last weekend (except the rain) looked good, on the last part of the trail. The upper part was really bare, according to this pic, though. I wonder how long the patch have been interestingly skiable last spring. I would like to know if it was skiable later than the Loup-Garou patch at la Réserve (about June 10 for decent turns on the LG)

I wonder when Kmart will open this fall. I hope they challenge Tenney and I hope we'll have nice early snowfalls this year like last one, to let me take some turns in mid-october ;)

yeah, at least in the fall there won't be as much mud! the ground should be much more solid than it was in may. but still, i think i am going to wait until mid-november to take my first trip up to killington (preferably on a monday) and who knows, maybe tenney mountain will become a early season possibility too. their high tech snow guns should have no problem making snow in the fall.

frankontour, i am sure the lower-mid section of superstar was still skiable on june 10. there was about a 300 yard section of a solid 2-4 foot base still there on their last real day. i dont believe there were any very hot days in early june either, so i bet some snow stuck around until at least mid june.

Thanks for the info, BerkshiresBoarder ! I admit that it must have a lot of mud into may on Superstar... especially the headwall where people have walked during weeks to reach the top of snow ;)
Personnaly, my ski poles are still brown, as my last lift-serviced day was at the last Weekend of St-Sauveur : May 10 and I skied 5 other days, after that ;)
Hmmmmm..... if only they could do the same depth of snowmaking on Loup-Garou than Superstar..... mid-july skiing on snow... hmmmmmmmm
