Snowmaking has restarted in the Catskills... We burned skis and snowboards last Saturday night to honor ULLR...

Unacceptable. It's less than 38 degrees in Philadelphia - I thought it was going to be freezing up North. It better chill out up there, because we are heading up tonight, and will be ultra PO'ed if everything is slop. (...on second thought, I guess slop skiing is better than no skiing)
Think :snowflakes:
2planks: The gremmies show up as :something: when you are editing your post. After you post your post, they are rendered as the image.
re: Snow, not to worry - My in laws are descending on our house this week, and I'll be unable to ski. Aprapos there will be tons of snow and excellent skiing for the rest of you.

I made use of the extreme :sun: none cold weather yesterday and finished putting up over 550 xmas lights. Oh no! that is about 3,800 watts of snowmelting POWER... My it is bright outside suddenly!
...hmmm... wonder how much the hydro will cost us this holiday season...

Those of us that happen to be Cubs fans or RedSox fans have been innoculated against the worst of the ravages of "NoSnow" anxiety.
For the rest of you, ULLR loves people to slide on snow, but only when Ullr is ready. Around here we also know Ullr as Glooscap, the Abenaki tickster spirt...
Sigh...
Bear in mind that should the Cubbies win the Series, there's a pretty good chance there will be excellent skiing all over the place.
Should the RedSox win it, there will be excelent skiing all over the place.

AHHHHHHHHHH it's STARTING to work. about 25 degrees right now, now we need the precipitation! i'm sure it's :chicken: in the hills right now. sorry for my early morning rant, but i was getting a bit bummed out and sick of these dam mild temps.plus the fact that i had to :atwork: today instead of goofing off at K-Mart
all will be right in the world of winter recreation SOON.
HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO ALL :D

Something must be working. Tuesday I drove up to Hunter in hopes of poaching the remaining snow they have. Plus the dog needed a good hike...
After all the rain we've gotten, I was worried that the remaining snow would be washed away.
Alas, as I drove up 23A I saw cars coming the other way with :snowflakes: on them (yes that most beautiful, and wonderful of all precipitation, S...N...O...W!!!) By the time I got to Hunter, I saw they had gotten about an inch (2 up top) overnight. Not a lot, but it's a start. They apparently also cranked on the snowguns so as to cover up this bare browness.
The dog's exhausted, I got my first (SNOW) turns of the year, BEFORE thanksgiving. Something I didn't think was possible this year. The conditions were crap, it was that garbage that sticks in front of the snowguns before they can groom it, and the snow was postholed from where the snowmakers were tromping around doing their work. None the less, it was skiing on that beautiful, white stuff; the soul rejuvenator.
Everyone keep doing their snow dances, IT IS WORKING! Look to the sky :cooldog: and think snow. :snowflakes:

How are the forecasts for this weekend in New England actually. I saw yesterday something like 1-2 FEET of snow possible in the mountains... is it still true ?
Here, in the north, they're going to pick a 4" overnight... 4 other inches friday afternoon and they forecast some snow saturday, sunday and monday, just before the weather drops hugely on tuesday. SO my god, it finally begins to look good ! Actually, it's snowing at St-Donat in the north, so I guess there will be some great skiing this weekend. I Hope that it will be the same in New England !!

Ish... even here, it was borderline in the north... snow, r@!n, etc. At least, Tremblant picked 6" in the storm up to now and they forecast another 2-4" today.
They got 16" in the Saguenay Lac St-Jean and it's still falling :envy: :envy: :envy: :envy: :envy:
Here, no snow, a ton of rain, but it should snow a bit today... let's pray ;)

:(
Does anybody know if they got snow out of this rain, or was it that warm even for that elevation? Looks like this season needs some special magic to get it kicked off proper like. Who's got a snowcone machine?

It's weird that they didn't get snow, at that elevation..... :(

There was sure enough icing on Saturday. we went up to VT to get our tree and, coming back we were going to go do some shopping in N. Conway. Heading East on 302, towards Crawford Notch. Got almost to the head of the Notch and they shut the road down through the Notch due to ice. (We were in a pretty decent snow squall from the NH border on in). Turned around and headed back to the Rt 3 intersection at Twin Mountain. Went South on 3 and got detoured AGAIN at the intersection that goes back towards Franconia and Sugar Hill. (Rt 3 South was closed because of ice as well.) Got back out to 93 South towards Franconia Notch, the road was open but every damned fool that evidently have never even SEEN ice or snow, let alone ever DRIVEN in it, was going our way as well! Now, I'm all for safety but there comes a point where, if you can't handle where you are and the conditions that you are driving in, you should make a decision to get off of the foolish road and wait for the salt trucks!!! Oh, well. At least my kids got to REALLY see how irate Dad gets when he is surrounded by complete idiots!!! lol OK, Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:
