I have AT boots with a conventional gore-tex/foam liner - a little heavy for my taste, but pretty servicable. After a season's use, I picked up some used snowboard boots off of ebay with the Intuition heat-moldable liner - probably five or six ounces less each than the current liner.
My question is whether anyone has had experience molding the thermo liner - pros and cons, advice.
thanks,
Steve
My question is whether anyone has had experience molding the thermo liner - pros and cons, advice...Steve Call me nuts, but a part time job at a gear store that handles AT gear would be just the ticket...
I had help cooking my liners from a co-worker. We followed the BD instructional video. We both took a class as part of our tele/snowboard demo day at Killington last December. The process is pretty simple actually.
Pay the 40-50 bucks at a shop or.....try to follow some web published steps yourself.

I've done it a couple times. There is a good video on the web. This has been discussed here before: http://timefortuckerman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3084&highlight=thermofit
I don't see any need to pay anyone to help you. Make sure to use the toe spacers and toe cap to ensure some wiggle room for warm toes.

Heh, heh. Well to be honest I do think you're nuts man, but happily I'm feeling that your kind of insanity is communicable, if you know what I mean. Increasingly I find myself day-dreaming about high adventures in remote and sometimes inhospitable locations of New England. Doc, am I coming down with something?
I paid $14 (incl. shipping) for the boots/liners, so I think I can afford to give it a shot at home. Funny, I rarely use the oven for cooking food. More often I'm the one who's cooked.
Hey, maybe Skilas has an opinion about cooking liners: something like "Intuition Liner Bourgignon Style with Spring Corn and Death Cookies".

I did my T1's myself. Really pretty easy. Its convieneint to have a shop do it, but a nice project if interested. Figured i saved $50 for beer.
I followed the video on Teletips.

Watched the video, cooked the booties, heading to Tux this saturday. Thanks for the beta - feels like they will be mighty cozy indeed.
Hey, hey, time for my beauty sleep.

Thermo liners ROCK! once you use them you'll never go back. I know I won't. They aint hard to cook (Just don't burn 'em). The BEST resource i've found is the video over at Telemarktips.com -- can't remember where it lives but search and thou shall find...

The video is called "Cooking with Big Tim" I think. Very informative, and he drinks beer and burps at the beginning - funny. I watched it before my own cooking session.
I wasn't sure that adopting a soft boot liner to the AT boots would work out, but it seems it will work just fine, and the liner (and boots that I will not use) were $5 on ebay. :D
