We recent discussions on past days on T4T and oldie but goodie members like M@ and DMC, thought I'd post a link to the Wayback Machine archive of Time for Tuckerman Dec 5, 1998 (http://web.archive.org/web/19981205105840/websmith.ca/ski/tuckerman/) .

Indeed the site has changed a lot.

Here is the Original Message Board (http://web.archive.org/web/19990225141725/websmith.ca/ski/tuckerman/board.html) (click on the Message, Comments/Suggestions, Tales of Tuckerman and Tips on that page for links to all the old messages. Hey I bet M@ was probably in his 20's back then :p

CRACK!!!
by Doug Cox (Warren,New Jersey)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On my fourth trip up, I went up with 2 newbies. We stayed at the shelters and were the first in the bowl on a sweet warm May morning. As anyone knows who's been, when you first reach the lunch rocks, and you know the hike is done, you just kinda stand there and look at the headwall. By this time these guys were sick of me explaining to them how to do things up there, so when I heard a loud CRACK and yelled for them to get the #$%@# out of the way cause somethings sliding they just kind of stood there . By the Time I was safely in the rocks, I saw them finally notice the Volkswagon size chunk of ice and rock heading their way. They of course followed me into the rocks, didn't get smashed, and listened to me and everyone else up there until we climbed down 2 days later. I suppose the moral of this story is to listen to people who've been there and big things fall off the headwall so always look and listen for them.

Peace,

Doug :{)

While on that topic of website history...

How about SkiCentral Dec 18, 1996 (http://web.archive.org/web/19961219054910/skicentral.com/)

Or Skinet Dec 23, 1996 (http://web.archive.org/web/19961223024617/http://skinet.com/)

Or RSN Nov 14, 1996 (http://web.archive.org/web/19961114064230/http://www.rsn.com/)

Or
Goski Dec 11, 1997 (http://web.archive.org/web/19971211120935/http://www.goski.com/) (hasn't changed much!)

And of course Dougs own PowderHound April 11, 2001 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010401180722/http://www.powderhound.org/) (did you have a different URL before that Doug?)

Hey Doug... You had NOT topics on the Hunter board way back!...

I think it was less about the truth and more about the language that was being used...

I have been proudly terrorizing the internet for a long time...
Our original page was the Blue Onion - named after our ski rental house... BLUE-ONION.COM (http://web.archive.org/web/19991012124033/http://blue-onion.com/)

DMC: Did you have anything to do with Cyber... darn forget their name. Think there were in Vermont. From what I remember, they were leading edge at time, well back in 1996 anyways. Did some ski resort sites if I'm not mistaken. Went out of business suddenly.

Cheesy JavaScripts and Dhtml.... wow...

Thank God we weren't into blinking text back then... ;) SkiCentral was pretty cheesy back in 1995. Had a little wizard guy from a Corel CD on the home page... good for a laugh.

How about the first Whistler site...whistler.net (http://web.archive.org/web/19961229110434/http://www.whistler.net/)

Or SkiMaps.com (http://web.archive.org/web/19961229110434/http://www.whistler.net/) back in the early days (now vaporized).

Then there was SkiGate.com (http://web.archive.org/web/19981212032818/http://www.skigate.com/) which professed to being the first ski site on the net.

In the very early days (fall of 1995) it was

The Consummate Skiing List (destined to evolved into SkiCentral), Ski Maps, GoSki, GORP, whistler.net, and Ski Gate, with the first dabbling of the larger ski resorts across North America.

No I didnt....
The limit of my comercial endevor into the Web/Ski thing is a interactive map I did for Hunter Mountain... And that was a trade for two season passes... And with all the changes they made, I barley got it done in time...

Dougs Interactive Hunter Montain Map (http://www.huntermtn.com/intermap.htm)

LOL I just found this message on the old bulletin board :

"""""LA GANG DE ST-DONAT, LA RéSERVE

submitted by Gilles Beauregard (gilles@biwi.hexacom.com) (Pointe-Claire, qc)

Wow... enough incredible, this community... when you think that la Réserve was closed for 5 years, in 1996...... Also I'm surprised to see this msg in french ;)
