It was still pretty skiable yesterday (4/10). In general, a mix of spring/corn moguls, flats, turf, and a few holes and rocks to make a skier/rider pay attention. The entrance from the bottom of Tuckermans bowl was undercut by a stream so I had to detour down about 100 feet to the first aid cache. (I think the Kling cache). The Little Headwall was still fun, although a waterfall is beginning to form on skier's left. There was an almost complete stream undercut near Hojos or the Hillman intersection. A small snow bridge persists, but will probably collapse soon. The top half from Hojos to Pinkham notch was really pretty good, the bottom half was starting to get turf and slush zones. Past the mid point, there was one part that had only about one turn's worth of snow left. When this melts, they will probably close the bottom of the trail.
I hope we get a fix-up snowstorm soon!

Can't do it now, you have to walk the Connector just below the bowl. Below that, the stream crossing below the Little Headwall moght not last the week, it was a narrow snow bridge on Sunday. From there things were good until the last two crossovers, where there was a few muddy/grassy sections which might not last the week. Not sure about the stream crossings, wasn't paying attention.

If Sherburn is bumpy and crowded - I'd rather hike down...
Especially if I got a full pack...

My slide down the Sherby on Sat was fun.... I was passing turtles awkwardly standing on their hind legs and the occasional on their backs. Believe me, I felt like one too what with the pack and all. http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif
It's cold up there yesterday/today.... not so the rest of the week.... 2 sections I remember were two skids away from being bare grass and dirt. If they make a 'bypass channel' on the left edge of the trail then the whole run would still be complete. Ski on the edge! It's FUN!

i can hike from the bowl to hojos, but hojos to pinkham is the real killer...Sherby better be open, even with moguls
Why is it a killer?Arthritis anyone????

true true.... I've always done well on the down hike...
But it does take it toll on the knees...

Its just that after a long day in the bowl and a long hike up, I am always bummed to have that hike down. But if the Sherburne is open like 1/2 way down, then i'm usually okay, but the entire hike down stinks. When i hike down i feel like

I hear ya..
I ussually stay up there for 5 days...
So I'm not so tired as I would be if I hiked up that day and climbed, etc....
It's a different perspective...

i see... though i have never stayed at the shelters, b/c im usually only there for 2-3 days, and the sherburne is usually open when i'm there.
One thing that sucks is when it's only open for 2/3's is having to transition from riding to hiking..
I've seen a 100 people all jammed up at the transition spot...
All depends...

Luckily i've never had that happen before, bu i can imagine that being a pretty big problem. It better be open the whole way this weekend...

I think this may be the last weekend of entire Sherby.
That transition at 1/2 down is always muddy and crowded.
It sux bad to have to go back to hiking after a long day in the bowl.
Can we get some snow guns up there next year, and build it up nice and high K-mart style????
The nwe can ski to the cars thru May.

from hojos to Pinkham, yeah, i dont like that hike very much...
Always so tired for it, the rocks do a number on my feet, but even if the Sherburne is only open 1/2-2/3 of the way, it's okay.

I think it will hold with these colder temps around.
Probobly close the bottom monday, although I would imagine the huge crowds this weekend will definately ski it off.
Sherby needs more of these :chicken:
