Dave, I don't quite understand why the last few times I sent SMSes my name, even with the ! comes as part of the text and it says "unknown"

Cuz the system looks up our name in the member database and can't find a member named skilasandRR. If you used your exact member name (skilasnow) you'd be ok.

So you last message would have formatted ok if you did something like...

!skilasnow and RR current conditions GOS: snowing. Mmmm snow

instead of

!skilasandRR current conditions GOS: snowing. Mmmm snow
