I have been checking up on a couple of our beloved ski resorts. I had an awesome hike this weekend. Did an overnight and hiked the 12 mile stretch of the Long Trail known as the Monroe Skyline, which travels from the Lincoln Gap to the Ap Gap. The trail takes you over 6 peaks, including Lincoln Peak, Mt. Ellen (sugarbush Resort) and General Stark Mountain (MRG). Saw the top of the Castlerock chair and the Single Chair... Sadly, there's no snow up there yet, but it was beautiful! I will post pics shortly. Does anybody know of a good free hosting site that I can post them at (to avoid making Dave do all the work) with unlimited transfers?

Webshots is blocked by our proxy server here at work. I hope you go with Yahoo...

Just my .02 CAD

I got a buddy who has a server which hosts my site. I think he might charge other folks to host though.

The MSN/Yahoo hosting seems to work for most people.

I'm not sure the free yahoo sites work - don't you get the old X treatment?

If you don't find nothing, Elwood, you can put them on a Yahoo album photo or something in the kind. It's not the ultimate thing, but it's free and not so bad to see the pics (although we can't see the full size pics).

If someone have a free website to add some pics, I would appreciate a lot the info too !!

I would rather hotlink the pics right here on the board, does yahoo allow you to do this? It seems like the best idea to post it both webshots and yahoo, so everybody can see them... I might have to just suck it up and buy some space.

We should buy a page for the T4Ters ! lol
Don't know who would ask the users to pay 5$ for the year if they want to use it... and who would collect the money :p

Maybe we should pool together and get one for TM Club Members. Anyone know how expensive it is?

Skicdave's helpful when he's around, but it isn't realistic for him to be a slave to our pix cravings...especially at this time of year :teardrop: .

 EEK! Franko beat me to it...

Nice walk on the Skyline! Probably the nicest long walk in VT. I'm still a bit partial to the above timberine on Mansfield.

Isn't it amazing how much steeper the trails look without snow! I hiked with the kids from Ap Gap to MRG a few weeks ago and the pitch off the top of the double looked daunting!

[/QB]I noticed the same thing in early/late season at Blackcomb when we had to drive up to the skidoos at night to get to work. Driving on a slick road cutting across some of the runs was pretty errie.

I got past tthe proxy server here, totally by chance...I did nothing "tech savvy" to do so. Those shots were awesome.

Looks like the lift towers of the Single Chair could use some elbow grease and a coat of paint.

I cut glades at our local mountain and it's quite interesting to get my Jeep and trailer in and out of some of the spots. We usually try to haul a lot of the brush out after we cut it. It would make a great bon fire for a ski sacrifice now that I think about it. :-)

It's true that the trails trails always look way steeper when they're empty of white stuff ! I think it's mainly for 2 reasons : 1) of course, the snow flatten a little bit the surfaces and 2) we get slowly used to see the steepness in winter with many runs in steep places, but our brain "forget" this, in summer, while we less often see some steepy trails from above !

Hey Bannick... TMC is for today !! ;)

I agree Castlerock, Mansfield is gorgeous. So is Camel's Hump. I just love the Skyline because it goes over the Bush and MRG. The trails do look steeper with no snow. Looking down Liftline off of Castlerock was crazy. I couldn't beleive that those were the rocks I have dropped before!

Oh, in case you can't find the pictures, follow this link (http://timefortuckerman.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000753) to the appropriate thread...

So If you can hike along a trail that takes you to MRG in the summer is it possible to do the same route in winter with shoes or a split board? I hear all these great things about MRG and I know they don't allow snowboarding, so not meaning to step on any toes would it be possible to hike and get in one run before you get the moot? There was an article in a snowboard magazine a few years back about a guy who rode the lifts at Alta (or something) with a split board ducked into the tress put the boards together and rode down. He was stopped by the patrolers and given an escort out after some questioning.

Actually Bannick, if you follow the white blazes (Long Trail) from the Ap Gap, it is an MRG snoeshoe trail in the winter. It is a little treacherous in the summer, but with snow it shouldn't be too bad. This section of the LT takes you right to the single chair. Not sure if anyone will say anything to ya with a board strapped to your back. The trail may be patrolled. There are a ton of stash spots off the LT above MRG and the bush though... Hard work to get to them that way. Potentially you could get a ticket at the bush, ride the lift to the top of Ellen, and hike over. Should only take an hour or so. Then, just hitchhike back to the bush...
