Now that the center/south of Quebec got its first snow
Now that Mt Washington got its first dusting
Now that there is still a good patch of snow at Mt Albert
Now that Tenney is closed for tubing until october
Well, I'm going to see a ski competition in 4 days. Too fun to believe ;) lolol

Mt. Albert??? Is it back east somewhere, or one of them "Western" mountains that I hear so much about in these summer months

Mt Albert is an Eastern Mountain. It's in the Gaspesian Park (±8h from Montreal)
It's a little mountain, compared to Mt Washington (about 4000'), but there is about 10-15 "kinds" of Tuckerman Ravine in the mountain, according to many sources. The summit is flat but contains a lot of valleys. La Cuve du Diable (The Devil's Basin, in english) have many skiable faces and the snow holds there almost all year long on good snow years.
But it's not developped as Mt Washington. It's a provincial park and it's only since few years that the government promote the access to the Gaspesian park for winter activities.
Is it Dave or DMC that posted some pics of may 20, 2000, when there was not remaining a great amount of snow ? Anyway, that year, there was still some great ski to do in early july.
It's sad that the couloirs + bowls of the north side are not open for skiing in july, cause I've already seen them with at least 1000-1500' high of vertical skiable... in early/mid july. (that was exceptional)

One of these years I'm going to make the trek up to the Chic Chocs. It's about the same distance for me to go there, as it is to go to Tucks. It's just hard to get up-to-date beta on the chics. I'm now on their avi email list which is nice. My buddy Smiley wanted me to go this past weekend but alas no $$

http://www.centreavalanche.qc.ca/
scroll down a little bit and on the right side, there is a place where it's written "Snow Bulletin". Just click there.
The sad thing is that actually, it's really for winter and there is no more avalanche reports after april 30. Hope it will be different, next year, as the number of persons increase fastly in the Chic-Chocs.

That's the one...I really liked how indept they got with there reporting, however, if I remember correctly, it was only posted once a week. I thought that was kinda sketchy.

Yes, it's sad that it's only weekly, but this could change in a near future, as the number of skiers increase a lot since few years.
Also, it would be tough to do an avy report for each peaks of the Chic-Chocs (there is a lot of skiable areas)
I felt really sad to not have the chance to go this year :( Also on the ultimate wish list, the Torngat range, where you can ski some large bowls & Gullies about all summer long.

Who would like to ski/ride this little one ?? :D
That's not the "Cuve du Diable", which is higher, but it looks good ;) especially for the east !

If flying out west to Timberline is cheating for you, you still can go to the Torngat if you have a lot of $$$$. I think that when the Egan's have done an extreme skiing trip there, it was ± $6000 US for the trip. Reason why so much expensive : there is no road to reach the region, so the airplane monopoly.........
