Skier's Guide to Etiquette

I'm a sucker for anything related to skiing thats retro. Here's a new edition to our basement 'Adirondack Room' that I picked up in Lake Placid last week.

In case you can't read the Skier's Guide to Etiquette (photo below)...

1. Dress properly. :nakedguy:

2. Make sure equipment is complete and in good shape. Borrowing waxes, sweaters, bootlaces and screwdrivers can be a nuisance to fellow skiers.

3. Never keep your group waiting. :skiergroup:

4. Conduct yourself in the spirit of informal good-fellowship. Do not drink to excess. :beermug:

5. Do not wax skis in the aisle.

6. Do not play radio too loudly.

7. Do not boast about your process. :disinfo:

8. The good skier waits his turn at the lift. Do not crowd or dawdle. :lunchrocks:

9. Do not clomp across the trail leaving boot holes as you go.

10. Never yell 'Track!' unless you have to. :jumpturn:


A skier who is out-of-control is not only a boor, but also a menace to himself and every other skier!

"Never yell Track unless you have too" ???? What does that mean?

I believe that "Track" means to get out of the way. I think that has migrated to "On your left/right". (Just make sure you can tell right from left.....

I think he spiked the drink and is waiting patiently. Either that, or she's pouring the drink for him. Either way the guys looks like he could be trouble :p

I have small collection of retro-ski stuff.... I actually would love to inject oldschool skiing back into the ski life...

Hey DMC,

You can pick that Etiquette board up at the Adirondack Store... Just on outskirts of Lake Placid... between Lake Placid and Saranac.

We like retro also... basement rec room is ADK style with skis, snowshoes and the like.

Out bedroom has 2 pairs of antique skis, an old pair of lace ski boots and old bamboo poles. One pair of skis hangs above the fireplace, and one pair by the bed :p

No Tuckerman Ravine Poster in the bedroom.... yet, but it is always possible :)

When I did a contract at Coke in Atlanta I was amazed at all the artwork that was hanging.

There was one painting in particular that I loved...
It was from the late 40's(I think) and it had a girl dressed in period skiwear drinking a Coke while a guy was kneeling adjusting her boots..

I actually found a place at Coke to get a print of it.. Cost a lot but it's awesome!

Unfortunalty it was an Intranet site :(
It's a wonderful print with lots of colors used so it cost around $100 to make.
I'll take a picture of it tonight..
