Anyone been up in the past week? Last year I had a terrible time getting down from the bowl to HoJos because the warm weather and traffic melted the snow, which refroze as ice, making the trail very slick.
I was contemplating picking up YakTraks for Saturday, but I have to go way out of my way to get them, so don't want to if it is unnecessary.
Also, does anyone know if I pass an EMS or REI on Route 16 near Pinkham Notch?

Not sure if you need them or not, but I do know that you do pass an EMS in North Conway. Hope that helps.
This is similar to the cramp thread...
The part of the trail you mention is one of the few places I always wish I had crampons or something.
On SUNDAY the 13th, this trail was all corn snow. There wasn't too much traffic, and I was on it at around 3pm, so it hadn't frozen and I foudn good footing.
In the past I've taken spills on this part of the trail many times.
There is an EMS at the Eastern Slope Inn (http://www.easternslopeinn.com/shopping.htm) , in North conway. There's also a nice bar in there.

There is an EMS store in North Conway. It's located in the Eastern Slope Inn on the main drag. You could call them ahead of time at 800-310-4504 .

unless a cold front comes thru, you should be down before the sun goes down to prevent a refreeze, out of the bowl by 330...

Thanks for the timely input.
Hope to see everyone this weekend. Hopefully the guy who mooned us before his death sled ride last year will be there to entertain us Lunch Rockers.

There is also an REI in Winchester? Woburn?, just off 95 that you will pass, but obviously they won't be open at 5:30 am.
