there are no rental places I know of near gorham or tucks, maybe just rent them at home and bring them up with you. sure you want to do tucks on rentals? Be sure to crank the DIN on the bindings down hardcore...

I know there are places towards Conway. I forgot my polls last year and rented them from a place on the right before you get to Glen heading South from Tucks, maybe 15 or 20 minutes from Pinkham. But that might be a pain if you are staying in Gorham. There is probably even a place in Jackson. Try these two in Gorham first, since that is where you are staying:
Ziel Schuss Ski Shop
24 Glen Rd
Gorham, NH *03581
(603) 466-5756
Cuba's All Season Sport Shop
23 Main St
Gorham, NH *03581
(603) 466-3333
After that try here: you'll find something, many listings in Conway, N. Conway, Glen and Bartlett
I agree with Targhee about equipment, I only go with equipment tuned by, ... umm ... shhh..., The Austrian... shh. But if you don't plan on going hardcore over the lip or something and are just going to ski a few reaxed runs it's probably no big deal, but DO considerhaving those DIN cranked up more than usual.
And let us know how the snow is holding up.

Play It Again Sports on Rt.16 in Conway. Great place to find deals on rock skis. I bought a pair of Salomon Super Force 9's last year with ESS VAR bindings for $75. Sure I'm a dinosaur to be skiing non-parabolic skiis but for bashing rocks, mud on the skiout, etc, they kick butt. Check the bindings carefully and crank the piss out of the DIN. Have fun, be safe, enjoy. Al

I would say try and rent them friday. They probably wont open till 8 or 9 and you really want to be on the TR trail by that time. Usually get into the bowl 2.5 hours after leaving gorham unless you are a marathoner and mario andretti..

Thanks all, for the replies:
My research returned this:
Andy's and Sports Outlet = Yes
Cuba's = No answer
Ziel's = Closed permanently. Now a resident phone
The skis are for some friends who just needed something to ski from the Lunch Rocks home.
So you think 9:30 is too late to start?

It all depends on how much 'skiing' you really want to do. One year I left Pinkhams at 11:00 and I was one of many people hiking up. I had three awesome sunny corny short runs in T shirt and shorts and some high quality lunch rock beer time. I left the bowl around 6:30 in the sunshine and got to Pinkhams soaking wet and bruised from golf ball sized hailstones around 8:30.
GOTTA :D LOVE TUCKS

Las Lenas: I remember a day like that -- mid-May two years ago. Hung out at HoJos waiting for the clouds to lift, making some late turns, and then getting hammered by hail on the hike out. Yuck.
Personally, I like to get an early (pre-8am) start at the trailhead. I'd rather wait for the snow to soften, fog to lift, etc., than miss out on any epic conditions....
