I'm planning on heading up to tuckerman's this weekend and wanted to know from someone who has been there in the last week if you could ski partially down at all or if you have to hike all the way down from the bowl because of a lack of snow.

The Sherburne has been closed for weeks and the little headwall is most probably closed. Your best bet to minimize your walking would be to make your last run down Hillmans accessed from the left gully

I thought the little headwall was open last Sunday. We didn't go there, but someone mentioned that there was nice snow left.

From Today's Avalanche bulletin:

When leaving the Bowl you must take your skis or snowboard off and walk down the trail. The Cutler River from the Bowl down through the Little Headwall is mostly open water. The John Sherburne Ski trail has been closed for the season. Please do not try to ski or walk on the ski trail. Last summer extensive trail work was done. Many areas have been hayed and seeded and are still recovering. Protect your ski trail by walking down the Tuckerman Ravine hiking trail. Do not ski on the hiking trail.

One more thing, the Lip is closed:

THE LIP AREA AND THE TUCKERMAN RAVINE TRAIL "THROUGH" THE RAVINE IS CLOSED DUE THE GROWING NUMBER AND MAGNITUDE OF THE ASSOCIATED HAZARDS. The trail will be closed ONLY from Lunch Rocks in the Bowl to the rim of the Ravine where it intersects with the Alpine Garden trail. This occurs every year due to the very steep traverses over the open waterfall and large crevasses that open on the right (north) side of the Bowl. Be prepared to use an alternate route.

One more thing. (Really, I'm not trying to pad my post total) I imagine the little headwall is still very skiable but it is best accessed from the Hillman's side. To use it as an exit from the bowl is probably not worth the effort of trying to cross the river.

I was up on May 3. I left the bowl in skiboots and was able to ski across the Cutler on the last decent looking snow bridge to do the bushwhack to the Lower Snowfields. There had been two snowbridges but CainamLlisrettim took out the next to last when he crossed. I will bet a bagel that the snow bridge I crossed is gone by now.

We did ski all the way to the rope accross the Sherburne and then booted to HoJo's. Quite a thrash, all in all.
