I went up to Pinkham last night (Friday). Got there about 9 PM, went to sleep in my pretty 89 rusty, grey 4-door Celebrity. Slept quite well. Got up this morning to beautiful blue skies, a nice little wind, the sound of a TON of people getting ready (dressing, packing equiptment, etc). 3 of my friends were supposed to meet me there and we were going to head in together (one of them has a place in Conway--which, if I was thinking smarter, I could have crashed at last night instead of sleeping in ol' Rusty). OK, 8 Am, right? They aren't there. I have to head down to Conway (maybe a 25 minute drive to their place--it's on the south end of Conway...off of Rt 16)I get there at about 8:45AM. Nobody there. A note on the door: Al, if you get this we had to take ***** to the hospital. So now, back to N. Conway to the hospital. They aren't there. Ask a nurse. Nurse says "Oh, he wasn't admitted, I think he was going to go to his doctor this morning". She was nice, gave me the doc's name and address. I go over there. Find them. He missed a dose of meds or something and had what he felt was a rapid heart beat (he's on some high blood pressure med). He's fine but it's now on to 9:45 or so and they decide, "I think we're going to call it off this weekend and go next weekend". As I don't like to head in after 10AM or so (I hike slow. I like to enjoy the hike in as well as the skiing) I say "OK". By the time I would have gotten back, unloaded and packed, strapped my planks on, etc, it would have been WAY too late for me to start. So here I sit, at home, looking out the window at the beautiful weather and the sunshine gleeming at me off of Lake Winnipesaukee, wishing I had said " to heck with it!" and gone by myself. Oh, well! I'm now shooting for next Saturday, the 11th. Anyone going next weekend? Let me know if/when/arrival times/etc. Maybe I'll see some of you up there. Have fun, be safe. Al :(

That's a bummer, but you had to do what you had to do, which IMO was the right thing. The sunshine day thing is a kicker though, i really feel for ya.

I always try never to get my expectations too high, that way when things don't work out, it's like 'oh well..it was bound to happen. When things go as planned, then I feel I appreciate it more. I'm actually on my way out the door leaving from VT for the nice day tomorrow (sorry). I expect a flat tire, a flat spare (at night), full campground, unexpected clouds to roll in the a.m ......

Anyhow, i'm sure were all glad your friend is okay and there's always next week to look forward too!

Thanks to all for the sympathy. Appreciated. By the time I would have gotten back, in and started though it really would have been almost time to head out before it all turned back to ice as the sun hides. NEXT DARNED WEEK FOR SURE AND I DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS!!!!! (unless my wife says no or something...lol) See ya next week. Al :skicool:

Skistooge, You should have come back up Sunday. I kept my eye on the weather and Sat booked a room at the Joe Dodge Lodge, jumped in the big yellow Caddy and did the Sunday trip. Weather was saxably excellent, crowd was big, and conditions good.

Depending on the weather of course, I think some good runs are to be had through Memorial day. I am going to try for next week-end as well, maybe see you there. /Saxman

hey saxman, just wanted to say thanks for the tunes on sunday....very excelletn mood setter!!

And i must say Sunday was an exceptionally great day in the bowl, did 2 runs on chute and the snow was beautiful, probably the best day ive had in tucks ever. 60 and not a cloud in the sky and no wind, if you can believe that!

It was great watching the crazy fool take some insane lines down the headwall at the end of the day. Someone has to do it i guess.

Just want to say again, Great Day and yet another EXCELLENT memory in my mind of tuckerman ravine!! :skicool:
