Microsoft is beyond belief... anyways I made the mistake of installing Microsoft Serve Pack 1a for XP. Gad what a joke! Took almost 3 hours on a Pentium 4 2Ghz box to install. Once installed things were slower and the system would hang writing to CD.

The usual solution: remove the bloody software and add it to the :outhouse: .... forget wiping.

Bill will never get it right. He needs a good :tmchandshake: in the face.

Thank god for UNIX !!!! :) :) :)

We installed the worm patch thing put had to trash it off the machines using studio viz as it conflicted with the 3D operations of that program. It always amazes me that these patches/fixes are released and often have major conflicts with some software. So our IT guys run around "fix" everything and then have to fix the fix.

I have seen BG's house...I can give you a map!

Dave,

You must be running XP Pro. The home version isn't as bad - only an hour or so to load and install. In spite of the many flaws, it's still better to stay up to date on Critical Updates than to run without - as any of the 500,000 people infected by the MS Blaster worm last week will attest.

And the security updates are no guarantee that you'll escape it's messy wrath. Just spent 3 hours cleaning it out of my Win 2k at work - this in spite of a computer protected so tight by a Corporate Firewall that they have seen fit to block all ICMP traffic. Not the best of situations when you are trying to do tech support and can't successfully run a single ping or trace route.

Granted, Windows has many flaws. And, I agree that Unix rules. But I don't think think most people want to plunk down the cash required to run Unix. After all, Windows got to where to where it is, in part, by being cheap.

Surfy: Nope this machine has XP home. Yes would be nice to have all the security updates, but if that means 1200 bugs instead of 1000 bugs, andI can't use my computer... hmmm... quess that makes it real secure! Good going BillyG!

Sure glad that that our web server is unix based.

Biz traveller headed into Seattle, late, takes a helo to the site. Fog rolls in, pilot can see just past the rotor and that's it. Says he's lost passenger panics...then, a building. Pilot goes closer hovers by the building, employees gather at windows.

Pilot says to passenger, "show them the sign that's tucked behind your seat".

Sign says, "Where are we"?

People scurry around in building, making a number of small signs that when showed through the window say as follows: "You're in a helicopter".

Pilot nods and swings away to make a precision landing on a nearby rooftop. Passenger is confused and asks, "how...?"

"Easy", says the pilot, "That was the Microsoft help Center HQ. You can tell by the accurate but useless information."

Microsoft = LargeHard

My favorite response on a Microsoft Support page is Microsoft admits that this is a problem with our software and is currently working on the problem.
