View Full Version : Red Sox vs Yankess game (gulp) SEVEN
Your attention please, ladies and gentleman, welcome to the Game 7 Thread.
Starting this one early. I'm actually feeling better today than yesterday, maybe becuase no matter how it turns out: The Red Sox did not go quitley into that good night.
Derek Lowe takes the monud, and I saw him in person dominate Game 4 - but I go back and forth liking and disliking him, kind of like Belhorn.
Wearing my Red Sox hat to work... not getting a badly needed haircut... almost decided not to buy a 12pack of Harpoon "Winter Warmer" last night becuase that's "After Baseball Season Beer," but then I realized I was taking it too far.
Now the question is WHERE to watch the game. Probably in my living room, as Suzy is supposed to goto a friends bday party - and I told her, you might end up being all alone at that party.

Watching it in my livingroom - I have a feeling going out and getting a comfortable seat with a good view of a TV is going to be pretty hard here in Beantown. My couch and TV, however, are perfect!
Plus I am so tired, I will likely crash on that same couch immediately as the game concludes!
Go Sox!

I heard Steve Palermo (ex -ump, on MLBs ump comittee) discussing the safe call. It was correct according to him. The ruling is that he was not tagged out, and went past the base. The play was the tag and that was "safe" but the play was still alive. Now Steve also said that, A-rod continued to second, and f the Red-Sox appealed (threw the ball to first). A-rod would have been declared out.

McCarver is suffering the onset of dementia, " the walk is as bad as a homerun"
I still think Sean McDonough is a better announcer than Buck, and was pissed when Buck took over. I still think Sean's call of Joe Carter's walk off world series clinching home run is the best call I've ever heard.
Leiter, on the other hand, is the only one who has provided insight into things.

Yeah gimmie Jerry and Al Leiter...or better yet Kurt Gowdy has been at all the games...get him to do the Call with Al and Jerry holding up the Color :D
Joe Buck is a dork. Last year during the playoffs he said, "I think the team that gets the most runs is gonna win this." And my remote control has no "SMACK" button...

Good one Bannick.
According the ESPN this morning (note - my morning starts at 10:00am) the first base umpire was blocked from view and didn't see gay rod knock the ball out. The call was ultimately made by the home plate umpire who had an unobstructed view.
As for where to watch tonight - from work. Going to put it on both displays tonight, the hell with the queue data.

Funny history repeating - but REVERSED.
Last year I was out at KC's rib shack with the T4T crowd for the beginning of game 7, but made it home before the end.
This year - Suzy is going to a suprise birthday party - and then to Jillian's and says she'll be home before the end of the game.
So I got that going for me. Which is nice.
BUT: I have to watch most of the game ALONE
Well - maybe not toally alone, I'll have my laptop and be able to post... if I don't post for a while, send the medics.

I work with a guy who grew up in St. Louis. He says, "now I win either way!", but he's still rootin' for the Sox. I's because they are now beyond the mere game - they are MYTHOLOGICAL! If they win the W.S. their exploits will be recited and elaborated by the poets, around campfires, and in time capsules. It will be bigger than Troy ever was, bigger than Davie and Goliath, bigger even than A-Rod. Eat your heart out Achilles and Hector! Go Sox!

Us Yanks fans certianly deserve the abuse, but I do have one question to pose to all Boston fans.
If you guys win the World Series what will you have to beyotch about? I mean the curse is your identity, if you lose that you become just another team that has won a couple world series...
Sorta like if the Cubs win....
Just wondering..
Matt.
"The Curse" was invented by the media - not the fans. The fans don't identify themselves with the curse, at least I don't. I just really like watching the Red Sox play baseball, and talking about it, and all that jazz. The Yankee vs. Red Sox rivarly was... make that IS very real, and that isn't gone - we just have one more point. Imagine how HUGE next years yankee vs red sox games are gonna be!

Oh it wasnt really a negative....i was just pointing out that the fact that neither have won a world series in so long that it has kinda become their identity...In fact i'd like to see the cubs win one, but I still believe they'd lose their identity..
I also dont see how the logic is skewed..the Sox live off the fact that there's a curse..it's how they survive. What will they do without it.?

Like I said... skewed logic. The Cubs identity has nothing to do with the last time they won the World Series. Their identity has to do with: Wrigley Field, Ivy, People watching games from rooftops, a very loyal fanbase (who would be loyal in winning seasons or not), and a long history of great players.
The Cubs have a so called "curse" that is also media-created. No cubs fan I know ever aligns themselves with this belief.
Pennant Fever
A Boston Red Sox fan, a Chicago Cubs fan and a NY Yankees fan were all in Saudi Arabia performing military duty for the US Army.
While off base, they were caught sharing a smuggled case of booze. All of a sudden Saudi police rushed in and arrested them. The mere possession of alcohol is a sever offense in Saudi Arabia, so for the terrible crime they were sentenced to death!
With the help of good lawyers, they were able to successfully appeal their sentence down to life imprisonment.
By a stroke of luck, a benevolent Sheik decided that they could be released after receiving just 20 lashes of the whip.
As they were preparing for their punishment, the Sheik said, "It's my 1st wife's birthday today, and she has asked me to allow each one of you one wish before your whipping".
The cubs fan was 1st in line (he had drunk the least), so he thought about this for a while and then said, "Please tie a pillow to my back." This was done, but the pillow only lasted 10 lashes before the whip went through. The cubs fan was carried away bleeding and crying.
The Yankees fan was up next (he almost finished an entire 5th by himself), and after watching the scene, said "OK please fix 2 pillows to my back." But even 2 pillows could only take 15 lashes before the whip went through again, sending the Yankee fan crying like a baby.
The Red Sox fan was the last up ( he had finished off the crate- given his allegiance, who could blame him), but before he could say anything, the Sheik turned to him and said "you support the greatest baseball team in the world, your supporters are the best and most loyal fans in all the world. For this you may have 2 wishes"
"Thanks, your most royal highness'" the Red Sox fan replied.
"In recognition of your kindness, my first wish is that you give me not 20, but 100 lashes".
"Not only are you an honorable, powerful man, you are also very brave," said the Sheik. "If 100 lashes is what you desire, then so be it. And your second wish? What is it to be?" the Shiek asks..
To which the Red Sox fan replied... "Tie the Yankee fan to my back."

If they won, it would be great! How would they lose their identity? Think about what you are saying. Clearly you've never seen a game at Wrigley, otherwise you would maybe understand. Until that happens, you know NOTHING about the Cubs identity except for what the media tells you to believe.

26 World series chanpionships and 1/3 or all pennants over the last 100 years....
Thats really all I have to say..
What I stated is only illogical to someone who doesn't see the whole picture...I BELIEVE...(and everyone can have opinions and I DO respect yours) that PART of the Cubs identity DOES have to do with the fact that they have only won 2 world series ever...and they've been in baseball forever....While it's not the ONLY part of their identity it is PART nonetheless.

I dunno if it's just Yankee fans - but one phenomonom I find interesting is the "Anti-Red Sox" people. What kind of identity is that? The "1918" hats in particular were pretty popular this year - and it wasn't just at fenway or in NYC - there were a ton of them at the Coventry show. What's up with that? I mean a normal fan has a favorite team - and they show their loyalty with a hat or jersey or something... but these guys are all about "I want you to feel bad" or something. I guess if you let it get to you it's one thing, but who wants to be that kinda guy?
Where can I get my "2004" hat?

Ya I couldn't believe it myself. I were under the impression that he didn't play there much anymore (touring etc.) so I figure I was damn lucky. It is hazy but the first time we were there in march of 93 I am pretty sure his brother was the opening act. I could be wrong but he was awsome too. When we arrived the door man said they were full. We pleaded with him...."we drove 13 hours from Canada to see this...blah blah blah." He said hold on and went back in the bar. About three miuntes later a side door opens and dude calls us in. Buddy had the wireless setup and was walking around the bar, into the can and even out onto the street playin away.
Man I need to go back.
