Also fun while sliding on snow.
A certain group of my ski buddies and I call it "skiing 101: learning the basics of stopping and why we stop mid trail, always to the side, near, or preferably in, the woods"

Strange, I don't have to ever slide off trail to go in the woods cause I am already there. It's just a matter of stopping to stack one.

I find it is best to stop sliding first.

Yeah - you gotta stop slidign first... until they invent the "Pot-a-pus" which works like a platypus...little thing on the tube which goes to a device which bubbles the... wait - I've said to much already.

Sadly, that particular group is not exactly at trees level, but they are always carrying so I let it slide and ski the trails :D

The house I'm in right now has an airhorn to ward off the bears...
Maybe I'll borrow a friends trumpet to scare them away...
A friend was playing bagpipes the other day.. It scared off all the wildlife in the area... ;)

Yes. This is a traditional Yidaki made in an older style by the aboriginal artisan Gurruramuwuy from the Dhalinbuy region along Australia's northern coast (Northeast Arnhem Land). It is made of stringybark eucalyptus. It sounds an"E" drone with an overtone at the 10th.
Don't worry about the spelling of "didjeridoo." There are several variations in use. It is not an aboriginal word but is an onomatopoeic representation of the sound as heard by western explorers. Tribes in various regions had different names for the instrument, including "Yidaki," which was in common use by a number of communities in Northeast Arnhem Land. In English, most players in Australia, white and aboriginal, call it a "stick."
Tommy T.
I had to go look this up...
onomatopoeic
adj 1: of or relating to or characterized by onomatopoeia [syn: onomatopoetic] 2: (of words) formed in imitation of a natural sound; "onomatopoeic words are imitative of noises";

The shorter didj is associated with Arnhem Land (as opposed to Northeast Arnhem Land). Many of them have a very cylindrical bore which results in little backpressure, which in turn requires a great deal of control over the air flow to avoid just puffing it all out at once. The Yidaki, like mine, has a conical bore which causes more standing waves to develop inside the stick. That, in turn, creates backpressure against which you can blow. It also makes a deeper, rougher sound that is best for rhythmic drone effects. The shorter stick plays with a higher and cleaner sound that lends itself well to vowelizations and is what is most often heard in current didj band recordings.
Are you using a beeswax mouthpiece? Most of the short sticks have very large holes at the blowing end and benefit greatly from a reduction in diameter made by shaping beeswax into a cup shaped mouthpiece.

Yup, I've got the beeswax setup BUT it had melted off this summer! I made the mistake of leaving it in my car and I was surprised to find that it had melted onto my carpet. http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif There wasn't enough salvage so I've got to buy another block of wax.
