Here's the post by the HMC:
"I regret to inform the New England climbing community that the Harvard Mountaineering Club cabin at the base of Huntington Ravine has not opened on time this year due to several unfortunate circumstances, not the least of which is the lack of a caretaker. Unfortunately, we have experienced several complications in the past few months that would not permit us to open the cabin until they were remedied. Most have been addressed, but the caretaker issue is paramount, and the cabin will not open until a caretaker (or caretakers) can be found. Please distribute this message as widely as possible. We hope to prevent too many people from arriving at Pinkham Notch, only to find that their planned trip for the week-end must be altered.
If you are anyone you know is interested in managing the HMC cabin for the winter, please contact me at the following e-mail address. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) managing the cabin, posting avalanche data (relayed from Pinkham Notch), carrying a radio at all times when in the field, chopping wood, and collecting cabin-use fees daily. The pay is somewhat low, and the work is difficult, thankless at
times, but benefits include classic New England ice climbing and backcountry skiing right outside your front door.
The cabin will remain closed indefinitely until a caretaker is found. I will post another message when (and if) the cabin finally reopens.
