NOAA has officially announced the onset of a "small El Nino" event. The long range US slimate prediction shows a 40 to 50 percent chance of above average temperatures and below average snow fall for the the entire ski season through most of the western US ski area, including Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, N.California and the Pacific Northwest. The Green Mountains and perhaps northern New Hampshire also show a 20 percent chance of below average snowfall.

Good News! The rest of New England gets our usual pathetic amount of snow.

As of the moment I need more data before risking my rep on a prediction....I'm not thinking banner year as of now, but I may have a silver lining to point out....another cople of weeks should do it.

All propaganda! They're just fear mongering!

I sense it will be a similar repeat of the winter of '97-'98. The summer has been very similar already.....

I remember reading somewhere that this will be a Wild Winter!

May be bad for you guys but El Ninos bring us tons more snow. At least the last time we had an El Nino we had twice the amount of snow as normal. Maybe ya'll could make a road trip to Rochester, NY. I know a few watering holes where you can get cheap beer if you're wearing ski goggles. ;)

El Nino (http://radio.ksl.com/index.php?nid=19&sid=126204) may bring a strong spring skiing season, at least to the western US.

That's what I've been watching over the past months and it's shaping up to be an epic snow winter in the rockies. Remember back in '97-'98? It was epic! I had more powder days that year than I had in the previous 5 yrs! And I only go out there for 10 day stretches each year! This year I'm out there at least for one long weekend per month + my usual 10 day adventure.

Woo Hoo!

Statistically, based on historical records, maine has an above average chance for a great winter. Dunno about NH or VT. Personally, i think the noaa is bunk, and so is the farmer's almanac. mathmatical historical analysis is the only way to go!

Isn't this how the farmers Almanac predicts - weather mathmatical weather patterns?
