I'd like to rent some beacons, probes, and shovels when I get down in late March to Early April. Does anyone know where in the area Icould rent them? Do they ussually run out? Can I book them?
Thanks,
Hennigar

This is the east coast :) You're lucky to find a place where you can buy them!: Eastern Mountain Sports and a couple of other places. Its usually cheaper to buy them on line from the west coast (ex: backcountrystore.com). They are always having package specials for around $300. But I have never heard of a place in the east where you could rent them.
Sorry for the typo

IME in North Conway would be the place to check. I'm pretty sure they carry a small rental fleet of beacons. You may also be able to rent them from Chauvin Guides (www.chauvinguides.com)

I dont think you will find them for rent. Its sort of like renting scuba gear. You purchase that type of gear to use it on a regular basis after you learn how to use it. I know several backcountry stores in Utah and Co. who dont rent beacons for good reason. Insurance from guilt!
