Update: :femmecannon:

Hello fellow femmes (now *theres* an oxymoron)! I spent today at Cannon and it is not looking good for Friday. They plan on deciding Monday whether they will actually open Friday November 28, but even if they do it does not look like it will be worth the trip. The predominent color of the slopes when I was there was straw with a liberal dose of mud. I was told they are blowing snow upper mountain, but they had lost everything they had three weeks ago, and it was clearly too warm today to add more.

Near and dear to my heart as Cannon is, I suggest someplace else. Neighboring Bretton woods had been open last week with a few beginner trails, but I don't know what they are like now. K-Mart seems to have the most bang for the early season buck. Any other ideas?

In other news, I had my first day of instructor training today and did something I never thought I'd do: voluntarily leave a chairlift in mid air. "evacuating a lift" was not nearly as bad as I thought it might be. And hey, there was lots of soft mud below. Actually, I was very impressed with the effectiveness of the process and how professionally it was carried out, and pleased to be part of it. :)

Well I am not planning on skiing with you gals but I do plan to be at the same mt. as skimum cannot be in 2 places at once. Anyway how about okemo? A little change from kmart

I think Okemo is minimally open. I'd go to either place. Probably K-Mart will be the only real option.
We are leaving for New England Tues PM, so we need to finalize plans by then - our access, if any, to T4T will be dubious.

For a time and exact place -> see TM Club.

I was down at Okemo for the swap saturday, and they had one trail down to the base that was about half of its normal width. And it was quite crowded, so I'm guessing its not going to get much better between this week and next. Bolton Valley, Smuggs, Jay are opening next weekend, longer drive but you wont have to deal with stuff being tracked out.

I'm not in the TMC yet, so could someone (Skimum?) email me w/ the :femmecannon: plans? I can ski either Fri or Sat, & do KC's as well.

Skimum suggested meeting at K-Mart at 9:00 AM at the gondola (that would likely be the K-1 gondy, I don't think their other one is open) or inside. As the gondy can be a bit of a zoo in the morning on weekends (don't know what Friday apres T-day will be like), I wonder if another location would be easier? Maybe just inside and to the left of the door to the inside ticket area?

Also, could anyone in the Boston area give me a ride? I can share gas $ and driving.

BG -
Skidude and I will be leaving from the North of Boston - Swampscott. If that is near you, we would be happy to pick you up - we will probalby stay around K-Mart that evening, to :skiplow: again the next day with some Pocono friends.

Anyone know anything about these Maine places? Or should we plan to stick with K-Mart?

Weather:

*Acuweather forecasts snow, ice and rain for Friday (all clear Sat & Sun)
*Weather Underground foercasts snow, and also rain Friday (sunny sat, no precipitation Sun).
*Intellicast has no precipitation noted Fri-Sunday (but Sat will be the sunniest day).

Stick with Friday, or go for Saturday?

Mountains:

Sunday River is open with "14" trails (to Killington's "16") but is farther away.

Okemo (south of K-Mart, in VT) is claiming 15 trails and telling you which ones they are:

http://www.okemo.com/trails/snowreport.html
Could be a good alternative (less crowded).

What do you think, Femmes?

-BG Hmm, I'm thinking Sat. might be the best day. And BG, I live 45 min north of Boston, so if you wanted to meet up around Hudson/Nashua area, I can give you a ride up (I'm driving alone at the moment anyways). Just keep me posted re: date, time, place, etc...

I don't often have opportunity to come to New England, so I plan to :skiplow: Fri and :skiplow: Saturday, despite :raining: . I'm willing to meet for :femmecannon: either day.

I'd love to go to Okemo :lips: , since I've never been there. Also, I suspect K-Mart will be crowded since there aren't a lot of options. To be safe, if everyone can do it, maybe we should meet at Okemo on Saturday. Just let me know what works for you - as long as I get to :skifemcool: , any specifics will work for me.

SKiing anywhere works for me. :cooldog: Anyway Is Okemo at like 9 on sat? Does anyone know a good place to meet? I think 9 is good that way if they open earlier you can get a few warm up :jumpturn: in :)

Are we back to Firday then? It isn't fair to change the date at the last minute unless everyone can come. I need to finalize plans by early afternoon, because skidude and I are heading out late afternoon today, and may not have internet access. How about Okemo Friday? When and where to meet?

I agree we should not change the day unless everyone can make it, and the current forecast for Ludlow, VT (Okemo) Friday is not bad. Accuweather says chance of rain in the AM, but Weather Underground has it dry. Temps have dropped, everyone is making snow again. yay!

Two possible suggestions on where to meet: Looking at the Okemo map (and using the interactive "whats open" feature, there is only one open Quad, "South Ridge Quad B," that you can take to get high enough to take other lifts to the rest of the mountain. Likely crowded in the AM. There is also a cafe in the base lodge.

As for when, is 9:30 AM too late (to allow for confusion factor of people coming from all over)?

Ski&Ride: I am in Cambridge MA, so would likely drive out Route 2 to 91N to Vermont Exit 6, then VT 103 Northwest, 24 miles to Ludlow. How would you normally go? KMRN, how are you going?

As far as meeting: Do you all have radios? Agree on the channel and just call when you get there.

My usual plan is to show up, announce my presence on the radio, and then start skiing. Meet at the top or bottom of a lift.

Nothing worse then showing up at a prearranged location only to find that someone had a flat tire that now prevents everyone from skiing.

Looking at the map, the North Star Express Quad looks like the only quad. The south one was closed.

9:30 sounds fine. Why don't we meet in the cafe at the base if it is actively raining, but by the bottom of the quad if it is drizzling, snowing or nonrainy.

BG - Pls clarify that it is the main quad up (it looks like the only lift to the top; I thought North Star Express Quad).

In a pinch, skidude and I could pick you up - getting you back would be a problem ....

Now I get it. The South Ridge Quad B must take us up the bunny slope -> and from there, we ski down to the real Quad that takes us up the mountain. Right?

Let's meet there at 9:30. If raining, meet in the cafe at the base.

Thanks M@. Skidude has radios - somewhere. Will bring them if we can locate them at the last minute. Just name a channel...

-BG BG: I would be coming up 89N to 91. But if you got a ride up from Skimum or someone else, I'll drive you back to Cambridge if needed, no problem. I'll PM you my cell #.

Right, Mum, on how the lifts work.

I don't have a radio (have dropped strong holiday gift hints) but will look for folks at 9:30 base of South Ridge Quad, unless it is raining (not sure there is agreement between what is "rain" rain, versus "drizzle" rain).

Sorry femmes - haven't been on here much. BG - I would head up 89 to exit 11 in NH, then rt 11. I think it's only 2 hours ish, probably less. If Friday shows rain, and Saturday is the better day, I strongly suggest you people meet Saturday, no hard feelings whatsoever. I'll catch up with t4t members throughout the winter. And, BG- if you can make it to Concord, I'd be more then happy to bring you up with me.

KM - We are sticking with Friday, at Okemo, 9:30 at the base of the South Ridge B quad lift (Bunny quad). If it rains (hard enough that you would get drenched waiting), then we meet in the base lodge cafe.

BJ - Let me know when and where to pick you up. (Skidude and I usually leave ultra early to get those first runs in before the mobs).

I can't wait. :lips: :femmecannon:

Hey this is Skidude. Just telling everyone that skimum and I are here. We hit Stratton today. It was nice. 12 trails with 4 trails with like 1500 vert and 1 with 700...you could take a 2000 vert run. Ok gtg. Anyway I may check back here, but I may not. See some of you at Okemo

The weather looks more dubious for Friday. If it is a borderline call regarding the :raining: intensity, lets meet in the base cafe. I don't want to get soaked too early in the day since we don't have a change of ski clothes with us.

Light drizzle -> still meet at the lift.

BG - we definitely need to try this again. I figured we'd have snow by now, and no rain. It's very depressing. Do you know if Ski&Ride is heading to Okemo? I know Mum and Dude are there.
