Just curious. What is the purpose of "the wall" at HoJos, with two windows, facing the ravine? There is no roof, and the other sidewalls are absent.

Also, how do you get the wood, etc. up to build it and the other buildings up there?

I've always assumed it's a windbreak, although when I've been there during a howling wind I didn't think it was too useful as such.

(And I confess to thinking this thread had something to do with Pink Floyd from its title....)

Like other caretaker huts :hojos: , supplies are brought up on the backs of hardy souls. In the winter the USFS has a snowcat which is used for rescues but most likely brings in supplies also.

Good question. I also assumed it was a wind break, however nominal, and the windows are for gazing from afar that which the winds might keep you from.

The wood was likely brought up by the ever elusive turbo shaft. The problem is that you never know where to catch it from, but it alwasy pops up at the caretakers cabin. ;)

The picnic tables on the lee side of that wall are very nice when the wind is howling. I think it might have something to do with the avalanch forcasters have to go outside to look at the ravine, and that must be much nicer to stand behind.
