70% pjmanchester

Hear-ye hear-ye! M@'s second trip, a.k.a. The Warm Trip, will be climaxing on May 1st in our most excellent ravine. Maybe I should rename it "The Extreme Trip"

Right now my plan is to hike up thursday night and not hike down till we run outta booze. Or Saturday if we're pooped.

The most extreme wife Suzy will be hiking up at her own pace on saturday. Jill and Brian hiking up friday night.

I made guesses on KmRn + SkiLasExtreme - so lemme know what your real probabilities are.

Radio's on 9-14, Silver Helmets, Flute Playing. I shouldn't be hard to find.

PWDR8S - I have to agree with you when it comes to a "weekend crowd scene", but it is alot of fun at Tucks when there are a bunch of people there! One huge party!!

hmmm, there is that word again, something that I can't quite get my 'la's around.

Sadly, I'm only about 3% for Saturday but the 90% is about right for Sunday the 2nd.

Very good possibility, I'd be happy to drive and 2 is always better than one. I must maintain a less than 100% though, we'll keep in touch. I was considering the possibility of heading up late Saturday night and winging it, but I am flexible too...

Looking very good right now (80%) for hiking and skiing Saturday. Was hoping to take my 13 year old niece who is an excellent skier but does not own her own equipment. For some reason, however, no place wants to rent her boots & skis to take into Tucks. So its looking like bladeguy and I, and maybe a neighbor I took up two years ago, and maybe another bladefriend.

She said Women's shoe size 8 to 8 1/2. Don't know how she likes her boots. Also do not know how long her skis are. You have spare ladies ski boots lying around? Perhaps to dress in ski-drag? ;)

I've Just been looking at the weather for Sunday, May 2nd....It looks like a decent day for a summit run. Wind below 20mph late morning through mid afternoon with drying air. I doubt we'll see much of the sun.

The snowfields mostly connect and it sure would be nice to go up :happyhiker: and bag a summit shot :camera: and some arcs :skicool: on the way back down this year :cooldog:

I'm 100%, but my homeboys appear to be bagging again, so I'm looking for a skiing/riding partner for early saturday Boston departure and return. Me: 46, good rider (although probably not doing the headwall this year), head-screwed-on-straight, with decent wheels and tunes; just be prepared for a conversations along the way.

I'll be tuned to 9-14, with koa woodie board and black Boeri "Be" tank helmet.

Looks like I'm not camping - but staying at Joe Dodge instead. My shoulder is still a bit of a pain - and I'm not committing to a 50+ pnd pack. So it'll be breakfast at the break of dawn and the 30pnd pack for me. See you all saturday morning. I'll be on 9-14, and playing my flute, and sporting the chrome dome and goggles you see in my avatar.

And May 1st is SKIDAVES BIRTHDAY! Wish him a happy bday. I'll be busy.

Three regulars (1 married for almost 24 years) are making noises for a summit run..start time from PNVC is "variable" at the moment...we'll stay in touch.

btw...your Avatar shows snowboard...tag says SkiChick...can we infer that sliding on boards of any number and description is your deal?

question - when are you considered a regular? I am guessing some of you guys have been doing this forever - this will only be my third year - and my friends first time.

kmrnskier

M@ - not sure if you are heading up today (Friday), or yesterday. I'm pretty sure you are able to receive these posts on your palm pilot thingie. So, I am heading up, leaving Concord around 5:30am Saturday, should get to PNVC around 7:30ish. I'll be with a woman, dark skin/hair, and a guy, beard. LOOK FOR ME. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Ski&ride - are you definitely heading up???? If so, when do you plan on getting up there so I can look for you also. Is Plummet going?

RR - Saturday or Sunday??

BladeGirl

Bladeguy and I have moved into the 100% category for a day trip Saturday. He even rented a pack from REI, rather than continue to use my old one which was being held together on the seams with duct tape. We may not be at PNVC before 8:00 though. See you all there!

ps to Skichick: I have no idea when you are considered a regular, but this will be my 4th year and it became an obsession long before my 1st year!

ask anyone who knows me..they'll confirm that I am most irregular. But to answer your question: This will be my 5th ski trip* this season...a good year, two :bluebird: one :icicles: and one :raining: all wonderfull in their own way....but don't get me started about the sled.

Tucks since 1968 with any luck I'll be making arcs there well into 2028..climate change permitting of course

* plus 1 trip in November for some ice climbing

KMRNSKIER - Yes, I will definately be there. Plummet is coming also, but just to watch everyone. She'll carry extra    so we'll have more to share w/ TFTers. What a good sherpa!

We are leaving tonight and plan to be at PNVC Saturday between 7:30-8:00am. I will look for you!!! If I miss you there, I'll find you in the bowl/on trail. Yay!

I'd say you're pretty much a regular, having returned to the bowl 2 times after your first experience. This is my 4th trip up, but my first time "really skiing" it (more than just the easier, bottom portion). Like Bladegirl, it's been an obsession of mine before my first year. I remember practically running up the whole trail just to get there! I couldn't understand why I was so drawn to the ravine, and how obsessed I was with it. Then I found this website, and felt much better! ;)

I won't be skiing on the cornice or above the headwall (YET), but I know I will gain as much enjoyment out of of this weekend as everyone else.

I am new to the site and have no friends that are interested in Tuckerman's (I do have friends though, they just like TV). Anyway, I own a house in North conway and I was thinking about heading up tonight and skiing Tuckeman's tomorrow. It sounds like a bunch of people are going to drive up early Sat. for the day. Any interest in getting a group together tonight, stay at the house, relax tonight and head to the mountain early in morning?
Is this to short of notice? Better to plan couple weeks in advance, etc?

I'll be driving up from Plymouth MA.

Another Question: Will everyone be at lunch rocks, or on the left rocks ?name? Sounds like icefall is pretty likely tomorrow on the lunch rock side, so I think we'll be on the no-name-rock-side (left side).
BTW - I just remember I had a dream last night that on our way up on TR trail, a HUGE avalanche came plowing down TO the trail, PAST HoJos'. And, it was this time of the year. How weird is that? What is my subconscious trying to tell myself????

I am in 100% for Sunday. It may be too late to help anyone, but the Snow Express pulls out of Portland Sunday morning 6-ish; any and all are welcome to catch a ride Portland-Pinkham and back. I go offline tonight a little after 5 not to return until Monday, so PM or post before then...

A good time will be had by all. :D

Thanks for any info.

I second that question! I would like to meet up with a group if possible - I just heard my friend may not be joining me after all - not so excited about going it solo.

I'm in the same boat, coming up from Boston (Lexington area) - would welcome carpool (5:30 or 6:00 a.m. departure preferred), hike, ride with like-minded souls.

89JY, SkiChick, & rider.steve:

The easiest way to meet up at Tuckerman is if you have a 2-way radio. Our Tuckerman Channel is 9-14 (FRS). They'll be plenty of chatter on there. If you don't have a radio, there might be a couple "hard core TFT" people wearing bright yellow "Time For Tuckerman" T-shirts.

M@ may be easy to spot. He has a shiny silver helmet, red shiny smith goggles, and may be found playing the flute while he's resting in between runs. I'll be wearing a white bandana during the hike (see avatar), and a bubbly grey helmet when skiing, so I won't stick out very well. I've met some local TFTers after work a couple times, so that's how I can find them and others....That said, I hope to get a chance to meet up! I'll be most likely starting the hike Saturday at 8:00am if anyone wants to join me. I have a radio as well.

Also, I will be heading up to the house tonight and if anyone wants to car pool or just crash at the house tonight I can be reached at 508-280-6441.

Probably get through Boston around 7:30pm

Thank you so much for the offer, Mumster! Bladeguy and I were already up north when you wrote this (Got a GREAT deal at a B&B in Jackson) but I appreciate the offer. I don't know Why I didn't think to make a general post to the board rather than mentioning the problem only in this thread.

Next year I will take her for sure.
Next year I will also make a trip early enough to ski down Sherburn.
Next year I will stay over the night after as well as the night before, and stay over in a place with a hot tub.
Geeze, this is pretty sad. I am already planning next year but have to wait 11 more months to be on that April 1 trip!
