Hey all. I've been monitoring this and the tuckerman.org site for the past few weeeks in anticipation of my first tuckerman's experience this coming weekend (5/17). Despite any henious weather in the ravine this week, are the conditions still worth it for a first timer, or did I miss my window?

Esbo,

I am also popping my cherry this weekend. From what I've been told so far, it should be great this weekend. The weather report is calling for sunshine too, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Can't wait to see you up there!

Up until this year, I've mostly been skiing in the ravine *after* the third weekend in May. It's still good, even for a first-timer, but of course there will be certain things that'll be off limits (headwall and lip, most notably) becuase they're too badly deteriorated. Left Gully is reliable late in the year because of it's lack of exposure to the sun; Hillman's holds up well, too. And once all the ice falls down from the headwall/waterfall area, you can ski from a platform (a sort-of bergschrund, actually) in the center of the bowl, about 2/3 of the way up.

I'll hopefully be up this weekend for Days 3 and 4 at Tucks this year. Woo hoo!
