I like this....
" In Huntington most areas have been scoured with some isolated pockets of windslab being created lower in the gullies such as under the ice in Central. In Tuckerman the effects have been more varied even within a single gully."

Skilas - Depending on what time we come of the mountain, we could do that.
I love beer.

Sundays are usually out for me. If I blow off Family Day, I get in deep trouble with the wife. So I normally do the Friday-night-sleep-in-the-car-at-Pinkham thing and day trip on Saturday. I'm gonna try to get in at least one or two overnights at the shelters this year. (Get to Pinkham in the afternoon instead of later at night.)

There must be someone who can make it up to Tuckerman's on Sunday?

Methinks I might make the trip... lemme see how tomorrow goes, I may be able to leave reasonably early Sunday but I wouldn't be at Pinkham til at least 10:30am, but I would be ready to hike in :05

Hi everyone...first time poster here. My buddies Matt and Bill and I are planning a Monday night stay at Joe Dodge, then up the trail the next morning, after a nice breakfast. This is all weather permitting, natch. Of my six trips in the three years I've been coming (since 2001...I know, I was a late bloomer, what can I say?) I've been very spoiled with the weather... all but one visit was blue sky.
So, of course I'm quite interested in staying in the shelters at some point... what's the proper protocol for securing a spot? Don't you have to be there at Pinkham to make the reservation in the early morning of the night you plan to stay?
On another note, as a collector of old skiing publications, when I come up Monday, I'd love to bring up my old copies of The Ski Bulletin, The New Hampshire Troubadour and other old-time articles and covers of the ravine from the 30's and early 40's. So many articles on the ravine and incredible pictures from the usual suspects: Winston Pote, Harold Orne and others. I wonder how Pinkham would feel about my setting up a card table with a bunch of this old stuff for folks to go through and enjoy? I just got done showing my entire collection last Saturday at Mt. Ascutney for their 1st Annual Antique Ski Day...everybody LOVED it, and of course, I just loved talking about skiing history with anyone who came up.
I can see I've found a new home here...it's great to be here, and I'm really looking forward to meeting as many other Tucks nuts as I can!
Ski ya! HB

Short Answer: You have to reserve that morning, in person at pinkham notch. Spots go pretty fast on those nice weather days - usually full by friday midmorning.

Hey Kfar: looks like your luck isn't bad at all. Maybe someone was trying to tell you something:
