Noticing that a few T4Ters have been messaging :radio: each other with reports and such while they were skiing fantastic powder, while the rest of us are stuck in doors... I wonder if a feature to message an email address at T4T would be of use. You could message to whatever@timefortuckerman.com and the message would automatically be posted in the forum. Perhaps the address would only be given to 'senior' members to prevent spam.. or other from being processed.

Maybe if anyone responding to the automated post, the new message would automatically be messaged back to the originator.

Useful idea or not? :disinfo:

I think it's a great idea. I dunno about replies though... I've never really done much more than send messags from the cell phone... and if you're on a weeklong trip or something and your post generates a lot of feedback you might use up a few more minutes than planned.

True.. maybe just one way.

Now I'm not into the cell phone cameras... but I would think it would be possible to even email a photo to the site. M@ do cell phones work in the ravine?

I may try sending photos to the site from Attitash on our April trip. That would be from a digital camera via my notebook puter though.. not a cell phone.

I'm hoping to have the new 8MP Canon Powershot Pro1 which is due in stores in the next couple of weeks. Its only a 7X zoom, but should increase my photo range by about 25% more than my current 10X Powershot Pro SI which is only 2.6MP.

PS. Technology... "Its a good thing"

3-4 years ago you had to be half way up the bowl to the lip before they worked.

2 Yrs ago it worked on hillman's.

And I think last year mine worked on the lunch rocks.... yeah, it did. I called the bartender at Sugarbush to order a beer.

Not sure about shelters. But lunch rocks for sure. It's probably *NOT* a digital connection though is the problem. And I don't think I can send messages from my phone without that digital connection.

But who knows! I'm pretty sure I get 5x5 perfect connection from guido - you can see manchester from there.

Well if I can figure out how to parse out an image from an email, images from a cell would work... does it require a digital connection? Guess so.

Maybe someone more local knows about digital reception around Mt Washington.

I've seen friends make calls above the headwall before - clear as a bell.. Around the Right gully area... Also you can get a cell at the summit.. Pretty sure I've seen people get a cell at Hojos too..

Big question is, is it digital though? You need a digital connection to text message or send a cell photo don't you?

You can now send a text message to T4T. For the time being use t4t@timefortuckerman.com. Include your member name with a ! in front of it to identify yourself to others. Example:

!skicdave at tucks - sunny and fab snow - saw M@ backflip the headwall!

!M@ sitting at LR - 5 beer is good - hic

!Skilas stuck at work - not making KCs - sorry

!Mumster 2000000 vert finally - wish you were here

I think i will shortly assign a different email than t4t@timefortuckerman.com so only senior members will know the email. This would prevent potential abuse.

Questions? Comments?

I do hope these people who get calls have their phones on vibrate. Nothing peeves me more than being in the middle of the woods and hearing a phone ring.

At whislter a couple of years back there was a guy trying to contact his friend who was a head of him in line. I don't know how he dind't hear him but the guy proceed to call his friend on the cell and had a whole conversation in line and well onto the lift about how great that last run was and how they got separated and how hot the liftie chick was etc etc....

No worry Bannick. The text messaging is a one way communication. It just allows members to send a quick report to the T4T community. Good to send a teaser.

I shut mine off unless I need it... Besides - the batteries die fast when I'm in an analog area..

I can send emails from my phone in analog mode.. not sure how it works.. but it does.. Not text message - but an actual email...

Generally I hate cell phones. Never seem to work except in the city where I have phone access already. And as a Canuck when I use it in the states it is unbelievably expensive ($50 in LD one time making about 4 short calls in the ADK). Companies promote digital yada yada yada, but when I complained it doesnt work out on the road the rep tells me to switch it over to analog... still haven't figured out how to force it to analog.

Actually the T4T mobile function is emailed based.... I guess referring to it as text messaging is false advertising.

On my server - I've thought about using a script to intercept Emails on the server and ripping the pictures out of them to be put somewhere ...

Maybe check the To: address and subject line as a criteria.

Dave you use PHP right?

Not sure how to extract images... but alas the web always has the answer with a bit of searching. Do you have a cell phone with camera capability DMC? If you do, can you send an image from the cell to t4t@tuckerman.com and I'll be able to use it as a test file. Or someone else with camera capable phone.

Yes i use PHP now... only since we moved to a new server and vB back in January, so I'm still in the learning process. I still use perl for some of the add on's. Eventually I'd like to move away from perl completely.

KMRN has a photo phone... but since I'm still waiting for the photo of me in Octopus's Garden, maybe she hasn't figured it out yet ;)
