Just wondered if anybody else collects old skis. We have about 15 pair of old and antique skis around the house/garage (at first guestimation anyways).
I'll do a bit of inventory checking later and see just how many we have laying about the garage, storage room and all about the house (antique skis).
My oldest that I actually skied on are a pair of K2 III's (red white and blue) from the early 70
's.
Anybody else collect them / never part with a pair? :jumpturn:

I should send here a pic with my 5 actual pairs of skis.
1 pair of Fischer of the mid-70s
1 pair of Atomic of the mid-70s
1 pair of I don't know what of the mid-70s
1 pair of I don't know what neither of the mid-70s (they will be my new skis for next year ;) )
and 1 pair of Elan of the mid-90s (I almost never use them, they're too much young :D )
We had several other old skis, but they finally took the garbage way. I should have burned them as a sacrifice for the snowgods ;)
(BTW, the rear bindings of my Fischer skis were some straps of leather. (of course, we changed the bindings on them when I began to use them in 1996-97)
Bought used:
1 pr 205 Rossi G3's, Solomon's (Yoyo)
1 pr 185 Merit, Sivretta 500's (AT)
1 pr 175 Elan, Voille Cable 3pin
1 pr 200 Kazama, Releasable Voille Cable 3pin
Bought new:
1 pr 210 Kniessel TouringW, Rotti 3pin
1 pr 200 Kniessel Skate, SNS
1 pr 210 Kniessel Red Star (Marathon), SNS
1 pr 210 Kastle Race Star (Sprint), SNS
A few older things, but I've used all of the above within the last couple of years.

Two pairs of ancient skis, hanging around, looking cool;
Two children have two pairs;
One has one pair;
Hubby has two pairs - old and new;
I have two pairs.
Two snowboards - neither are ancient
So 13  . Unlucky - I better get another pair.
But, only two would be unequivocally considered antique.
My primary skis are currently in the front hall by the door - just in case... :skifemcool: I'm SO deranged.

You can take a look to my 4 pairs of last year lol. It just misses the "new" skis I will have next season. I would probably take the black ones (of the mid-90s) to ski Tucks, in april, cause they have the best bindings. In july : the "long" gray ones. They're all 160 except the 70 cut skis.

NeverSummer Wide 63 (freestyle)
NeverSummer Premiers 68 (All mountain)
Burton Custom Split 68 (Back country)
Lib Tech Emmagator 70 (too big - looks cool)
Burton Junkyard snowdeck (late night fullmoon park sessions)
Mumster:
Two snowboards - neither are ancient
Ya ever ride one of those snowboards?
What kind are they...?

My daughter rides :snowboarding: one and the other is the hubbys :snowboardstyle: . Are you kidding? I'd get mangled if I tried to ride one of those things.
They are Burton's, I think. I can look up their exact specs, if you want.

1 pair old K2 skis (can't get rid of them!)
1 pair Atomic 11.20 Beta Rides (my favorites)
1 pair Atomic C-6 carves (for fun, rock skis)
1 Oxygen Snowboard (rock board)
1 Atomic Alibi Snowboard (for attempting the park)
1 Atomic board 155cm (older, but use this mostly)
1 pair 99cm Fun Zones
I'm ready to go find some sand dunes, I'm going through major withdrawl here!

OK, this is embarassing - I have only 2 pairs that I keep with me.
1 - Salomon crossmax 9 pilots with ?2 seasons behind them
2 - Salomon 1080s - one season
I think my father actually has a few of my older straight skis somewhere at their house. Maybe 2 pairs of Rossis (one being shaped) and one of Kneissls?? What I really wish I kept was the first pair I ever skied on - does anyone remember those little red plastic skis?

I've got my first pair of ski's which were Cheap Techno Pro 160's, I only skied on them for a year or so. I was proud of them because I bought the whole package, boots, skis, bindings and poles with my own money. I think that was in 86. They are still in my parents garage
I then bought a pair of ugly Rossingol 175 skis not sure the model but they look like old crappy rental skis. Bought them in 88. They are still in my parents garage
Next was my first pair of "real skis" Tyrolia Mega Comp Sl 195's. They were awesome until a blew off a tip in 1990. They are still in parents garage...broken tip and all.
Head CX6's 210's. I thought these would be great skis....they lasted two trips before they started to delaminate. I took them back and they gave me a pair of demo elan's to finish the year off while waiting for mine to come back under warranty.
Head CX6 195's. I skied on these for several years starting in 1992, but didn't ski that often due to school and work. Soon I joined the patrol and started skiing them more regularly. My first trip to Tucks was on these skis and they went twice. They are hanging in my office
Rossingnol Bandit X 191's. These were a great ski just a little long. I bought them in 99 Only skied on them for a year. Because I bought a pair of play toy twin tips. I ended up selling these last year to a friend to help pay for my RPM's. These skis had went to tucks once.
Rossingol PowAir 178's these were supposed to be a toy to play with on long boring nights pro patrolling. Turned out to be my number one ski. I put these babies through hell. I bought them in 2001. They were about to become my rock skis until a ripped out an edge mid winter last year. I've tried to fix them so we'll see how they work this fall. These skis made the trip 4 times. They are hanging in my office
Rossingol RPM 21 177 these are speed machines, if I was to buy them again I'd go one size smaller. I bought them this year and they have 2 trips to Tucks and 1 to the Snowfields. They are hanging in my office as well.
I have a pair of skis my mother skied on when she was a kid. They are black and I think they are Head. Cool little ski. I also have a pair of antique skis with screwed on edges eventually I'm going to mount those somewhere. So I guess that would make 8 pairs
skiied a pair of 195 Kniesels for 5 yrs. My buddy told me I needed new skiis every day. One night he through them on the roof of our ski house.
Next was a $50 pair of 195 knissels from building # 19
Now I'm on a $25 pair of 205 solomons. No idea what model.
All straight. This year the money goes to boots and custom foot decks.

Are you sponsored by Gnu??
I ride a LibTech which I believe is fron the same parent company... Good stuff..
I weigh a little under 200 so the Gnus were a little too flimsy for me - but that was a few years ago..

Rossi Bandit XL 170
Salomon Snowblades.

I don't really concsiously collect equipment, but it seems like paraphernalia from my 3 main loves (snowsports, biking, and music-making) has a tendency to accumulate around me to overwhelming levels.
Skis:
-1 pair of Volkl CAD Explosiv, mid '90's - supercool ESS adjustable bindings.
-1 pair of K2 KVC Comps, early 90's
-Assorted ski-related regalia
Boards:
-164 Riot Carbon-fibre, no model, no manufacture date, no real info on it either - it was supposed to be for powder, but I've been using it on ice and crust etc, really cool board. I would like to find out more about Riot snowboards, so it anyone knows, contact me. I love this board, and would love to get a source for other Riot snow gear. Their main gig is boat manufacturing in Quebec.
-158.5 Burton Rippey ('97 or '98, Puma graphic) - this is basically a noodle, useful only on soft spring poo and for scraped off runs that I would not take my favored Riot or Soloman stuff on. It has 5 seasons on it, so it owes me nothing.
-2002 Soloman Echelon Limited, 160 cm. - This is a rad board! It is a short for backcountry, but has totally realigned my perception regardling length and stability. This thing has grip that rivals the Riot, but surprisingly, it a lot more forgiving. The sidecut is a little more pronounced and the tail is really snappy, this is a fast freakin' board, and it is still light enough to loft it for those rare occasions that I decide to risk life and limb in a park. Strange how I can deal with steeps in avalnche territory, but big man-made elements in groomed parks still freak me out at the beginning of every season. Maybe I'll get over it this year... This is probably my overall favorite board.
1996-ish Burton Jeff Brushie (craps table graphic) - short (153), soft twin tip (remember those) with a directional "superfly" core. This board was done for a long time ago, but I just can't part with it. It is a nice goof-off ride. Too narrow for my big feet, and too short to have any kind of stability. It kind of makes me think of the boarding equivalent of a skid-steer.
1993 or '94 Jeff Brushie Signature (Cruzin' '53 graphic). heavy, directional core twin-tip. It has not been ridden for at least two seasons, and now that I think of it, probably three or four, but it is in great shape and I can't stand to part with anything with such a cool retro graphic. It reminds me of the actual Burton "Cruise" I learned on.
Bindings: Clicker flats all the way. Totally compatible with step-in snowshoes, cramp-ons, etc. Ease of use and (so-far) reliability have really turned me on to this system. I have no desire to turn back...
Wow, I guess I am starting a collection. Maybe I should have a yardsale after all...

Anyone ever try a tow-behind on a snowmobile, a la "winter waterskiing"? Experience shows that this is an example of extremely poor judgment, and I do not recommend it. I've never been the same since....

Fischer RC4 Sl's (195) with Marker Titaniums; Salomon Force 9's (weird Salomon PR sizing...longer than my Fischers). <<<sniff>>> Only 2 pairs. BUT!!!!!!!! I had a SNURFER when I was about 8 years old (1966 or so). Who else did??? Who even KNOWS what they were??? Mine was yellow and had the proper traction thumbtacks and the proper polypropylene rope to hold on to. This thing was probably the reason that, to this day, I don't snowboard. (I do plan to eventually). OK. Have fun, be safe. Al :skistooge:

Heliskiing... lucky guy!.. I've only been once. RK at Panorama back around 1987. I have some great footage on 8mm. What a blast skiing REAL untracked powder.
I was at Panorama in April.. Skied there two days before we discovered Kicking Horse...
Due to the funky snowpack and the amount of avi deaths they were not really goin anywhere I wanted to ride.. Only flat stuff - hardly any steeps...
So we blew it off...
Had a couple of great dinners at RK though...

I was invited to a toboggan challenge at Kicking Horse last year. Was really excited about but it was cancelled so I didn't get to go. I'm hoping to go out and visit my buddy in Calgary this winter and both being patrollers we can score cheap lodging in patrol huts at most of mountains in the Rockies. I'm really looking forward to it.

Hell, you guys aren't even close in the "ancient equipment" category!
Still in my parents attic back in Maine:
1 pair of 1920's vintage wood ??? with beartrap bindings and screw-on edges!
1 pair of early 1950's vintage same.
2 pair Head (GS and Slalom) circa 1968-70. The first metal skiis. Heavy, even at the time, but pretty good. Made great rock skis later - couldn't damage the d@mned things!
14 pairs Dynamic VR17's of assorted flex ratings, bases, cuts, and lengths (193 to 235)circa 1970 to '77. Phenomenal skis - blue boilerplate didn't exist to those things. Like flying an F15 on railroad tracks. Pretty good at Tuck's also, but not much fun in heavy wet stuff on the flats.
2 pair Rossignol Stratos circa 1969-70. Almost as good as the VR's.
1 pair The Ski from 1974. Great powder skis at the time, but not worth a d@mn on the Headwall!
2 pairs of experimental K2 downhill skis circa 1973 that almost killed me by having the bindings rip out in downhill practice at Whiteface because the factory forgot to put in the metal reinforcement plates! Kept them for the "see - I told you so" factor.
1 pair Olin Mk5's from 1978. Pretty good recreation skiis - easy to turn at normal low speeds compared to the racing stuff. Last pair I ever bought.
6 pairs of leather boots, mostly Solomon's, I think. Circa 1960 to 66.
2 pair Lange - the first plastic boots. Circa 1967-70. The liners were filled with something akin to PlayDough - they'd conform perfectly to your feet, but you had to keep re-squeezing the stuff back to the high-pressure points every day!
1 pair Hanson Exhibitions circa 1972. Great boots - a ton of support, with custom molded liners.
3 pair Hanson Experimentals - all custom made - circa 1973 - 76. Never found another boot to even begin to compare.
2 pairs Jet Sticks - strap-on calf supports that became popular before high-top boots finally made the scene. Bet most of you never saw those things!
Gads, I'm getting old!
