5:22 am lego ?
On the way out the door Lego gave me a look, so I brought her. She had a really good time.
5:34 am road
5:58 am shell & kfar
6:01 am moose craig
Met Moose: Now I know why they call him moose, he's gotta be 6'6"
6:24 am parkeb
Left M@ & Kfar's green volvo's at the resevoir parking lot, parked Moose's truck up at the nursury. Better parking spot than the little parking lot we used last time.
6:30 am hikh
Hiking up. Blazed really crappy thick crust for about 200 yards, then joined the main trail which had maybe 5 tracks on it... some snow shoes. So it was easy hiking up. But it was LOUD with the crunchy ice.
7:04 am top

Got to the top, and Moose couldn't get his feet in his boots.

My thermo read 9deg F on top. Kfar and I both helped out, stretching either side of the boot, and got them on.
Here's kfar up top:

Wind wasn't bad, and the view of the sunrise was excellent.

Everyone was switched over to skiing mode and we began the decent. It was immediatly apparent that conditions were miserable. There was no snow on top of the ice, and it was just barley thin enough to break under skis and cause havok with your intended direction. Under the ice was about 6 inches of lovely powder.
Ended up taking skis off for a lot of the trail. Every once in a while we'd come to a part with evergreens and for some reason the snow would be less icy and actually kinda fun. But that was the exception.

Lego had a great time though and is officially a ski dog now.
8:19 am car
We finally got to the bottom with out any injuries, but I think the 'turn/fall' ratio was pretty low.

Lessons learned: When someone says, "It's crusty" I'll know what I'm in for.

Conditions were definately not the greatest, but we made the best of it anyway. A big thanks to M@ and Kfarrar for help getting my feet into my FROZEN boots - I didn't want to hike back down!
Nice meeting the both of you (and Lego is a cool hike/ski partner).
Can't wait to hit Guido's again when the snow is less CRUNCHY!

Thanks guys for a great time this morning. I can't wait to hit Guido after 1 or 2 powder storms. HMMMMMM fun. This morning was definately a challenge, but it was still good to get out.

M@ - I can't wait to see the video. I'm sure it could be a contender on 'Funniest Home Videos". I wrecked myself pretty good with all my falls, but I think I got air once or twice.

Until next time!

Here's a link to the movies: I dunno if it'll work.

M@ -

That is hilarious. I showed my wife the video and she said, "Why did you do that." I didn't know how to explain it to her. I just said, "Because I was having fun."

Eventhough the the conditions sucked, it was great fun.

Thanks for the great :crunchie: :guidos: report! Video was fun. You finished up pretty early though, why no second run? :p

How much vert is :guidos: ?

I would say that if the snow was less :crunchie: a second run would have been considered - it's really a quick and easy hike up. As far as vert, the topo puts the summit at 1324' and I'd estimate we 'skied' down to ~650'. So if my math is correct, that's ~674'.

Once we get some snow on there - the 3 in the trees plan will be excellent as we'll start with 2 cars on the bottom, and be able to do 2 runs in the morning before work.

Work sucks.

Guido Rocks.

The photo uploads seem to be working for me now.
Here are a couple more pics.

Looks like a great time, if not great skiing. Nice job making the best of the conditions. Keep your ullr-dancing shoes on, and it will only improve.

No skinners among you? Is the up-trail conducive to skin/wax-ing?

P.S. What kind of dog is Lego?

The picture above shows Kfar in AT gear, I'm sure he skinned...

Cool, Lego's beautiful. My parents have a blue merle Aussie about 8 years old. He looks like the one in your "Friends on the Trail" pic except about twice as big. I think he weighed in at 80 pounds most recently.

And Lego is the best frisbee catcher I have ever had the pleasure of throwing a frisbee for!!! :cooldog:
