Just noticed that last night, just before 7pm, T4T set a new record for online visitors.

Anyone care to do a statistical analysis? There is an equation that predicts, for a given population and measure, the frequency with which new records are set. Surely visits are dependent on the season as well as on the age of the board, but can someone ( :skicdave: ?) develop a graphic representation? I'm figuring that, as a first-order approximation, we have some sinusoidal variation (the seasonal component) about a linear (or +) upward trend (the age-based component).

Coincidentally, another forum concerning NE mountains (VFTT) hit a record yesterday as well.

Hey that sounds way too complex!

Actually the record was 69 visitors online at one time, that was back in Sep I believe.

I'll have some stats programs in the near future... its on the too do list, especially since I'll be looking at some additional sponsors to help pay for the ever increasing server requirements. My pockets are only so deep and currently only the Royalty Inn provides a small fee sponsoring the site. (hey this is getting WAY off topic! :) )

Anyways the server logs provide all the info necessary to look at number of daily visitors, page views etc etc. I do a lot of that type of analysis for Skicentral, just too busy to set it up for T4T.

While on such topics, I would note that at at times (today for example around noon) T4T put a heavy strain on our server. Luckily I am in the process of setting up a new server which will come online in about 10 days once testing is completed. This should improve the situation.

I am also considering moving from UBB classic to UBB threads which is a MUCH more efficient (written in PHP not perl)... but we will see. I'll have to learn PHP real fast in order to be able to hack the code like I have with the current UBB classic code. T4T is much more suited to UBB classic in my opinion but the code isn't too efficient when the site is busy... thats a problem.

Dave :skicdave: : I don't see so much seasonal variation. Most ski MBs hibernate during the summer, but this one was ripping. How much did it vary during the last 4 seasons?

If anything, I see less activity between Fri at 5 and Sunday evening, with more during the workweek (lol). And, maybe 8AM, noon and 4PM increases in volume.

Also, the growth over time may not be linear. With a MB of this caliber, you may see an accelerating growth pattern. :D

Mumsterbuns...

This was the first year of major grow on the site. In previous years it was basically dead as a door nail till March. Off season there seems to be a core of about 20 to 30? By March we should see lots of 'strangers' appearing out of the woodwork as they plan on trips to Tucks.

kmRn/SkiLas & I were noting that this board is gonna be crazy come spring. I predict a newbie a day, with at least one post a day asking about crampons.

re: PHP - It's awsome Dave! The online help is extremly good - with examples for almost every keyword you can think of, and discussion goups etc... if you need any PHP help -lemme know, I've been doing it part time-ish for a year now.

I'll post another topic re: the T4T board software/php issue.
