The weather forecast doesn't look too good.
With highs in the 20s, is anything South facing, like OG, likely to be soft enough for nice skiing?

thanks!
(I've got lots to learn!)

Worth a poke on S stuff if you don't have to drive too far.

Don't bother. Skinned up the Cog friday to hit Burt or Ammo. Figured with full sun out it and west facing it might work. I started in corn but half way up the COG (maybe at 3500-4000 feet?) it turns hard. By the time I hit the summit cone it's full on boilerplate, rutted impenetrable crust.

I aborted and skied down, last half was actually fun. Hit Doublehead thinking it's south facing and lower elevation thus it was about 7-8 degrees above freezing. Started out in full corn coverage then 1/2 mile in the snow just disappears (like totally gone). Throw the skis on the pack and start hiking and it goes for 1/2 mile and by this time the ground is bone dry and not even moist. I ditch my skis behind a tree thinking I won't be needing these anymore and 1/4 mile later the snow starts again with full coverage all the way to the top for ~1 mile+. Bizarre. It was a little stiff in the shade but corn where the sun hit. Snap this photo of George with evening sun and had a great ski/hike out.

Did the zoo in tux today (ski club friends were up and determined despite my less the optimistic scouting report from the westside). Couldn't even get a boot in the stuff without a crampon. Probably 1000+ in the bowl and maybe only saw 15-20 others try for the 2 hours we stayed. Half of those rag dolled and many injured and/or hauled out by medics.

We were each done with one. We had fun but not b/c the skiing was good. It was a real $hit show.

tough go. not surprised. it'll get good in may. surprised you'd go west side when the webcams clearly show all of the snow's on the east side. like having a flat pond across the street from an ocean with a nice break, but paddling out in the pond for waves.:)

now you know.........

After all, it's the rog-free zone! ;)

Follow the sun when hitting that side. Wait on the descent until later in the day when the sun's gone around west. Play somewhere else (snowfields perhaps) in the morning. Although, sounds like even that may not have helped.
