Anybody knows how accessible would the Ravine be next week end in regard to Tuckerman Inferno 2011 ?
Any access limitation to expect ?

I don't know but more specifically:
-Which day is the inferno scheduled for (Sat or Sunday)?
and
-What time?
...so I can avoid the mess if possible.

Typically the Ravine is still open to all, except for the designated route of descent for the Inferno participants, which can vary from year to year, though I believe Left Gully is often the route of choice, depending on conditions.

Maybe Friday is the day then.
temps are trending down for friday now. very little, if any will soften on friday as it looks right now. like only protected south may have a chance. gonna be epic number of sliding falls between friday-sunday.
tomorrow still looks good, but tending a bit cooler too. east facing could struggle a bit tomorrow, but winds look light enough to allow some bliss.
tough time of year to hit it right.

Can you still ski out on the GOST?

yes, you can still ski out gost, but after this rain, you'll be getting in and out of your skis by friday and some brook crossings could be tough.
no, gos will not soften on friday with the forecasted temps. i could be wrong, but my tried and trued temp per aspect via jackson temp chart is usually spot on. tomorrow may even struggle to soften there and it's supposed to be almost 10 degrees warmer tomorrow.

Thanks for the links. I'll be up watching the spectacle this Saturday. Anyone else planning on attending the Inferno? Or participating in it?

registered just to ask that question?;)
the temp in the ravine is ALWAYS 8.237 martian degrees different. don't know martian degrees? no de-coder ring? man, you'll just have to start spending countless days up there to figure it all out.
it's crazy stuff! otherworldly!

Any thoughts on how the conditions may fare for trying the East or South facing slopes of Tuck on Fri? Probably not gonna reach a high enought temp?

thoughts? sure, i know exactly what's gonna soften and when on friday based on this exact minutes forecast for winds and temps. wx will change like 3000 times between now and then, and so will my thoughts on the subject.
head on up there and let us know what you find. i'll be working. stuff will soften. a few degrees either way will make a HUGE difference.

been on my back all day, i have couch sores. great ski days have their benefits. gives me an excuse for not doing jack $hit of anything worthwhile for the rest of the week. killing time, i'm really good at it:D

I'll be taking part. Doing it for the 4th year in a row as a 2-person team. I get to run, hike and climb/ski while my slacker teamate kayaks and bikes:)
We've won the 2-person division twice (the other year he crashed out on the bike while we were 5th overall, so a DNF) with a high overall finish of 8th last year. This year I'll be slower on the run though - been skiing too much!!
And to answer the original question about access, etc everything is completely open. Technically even the ski race course is open but non-participants tend to stay away. No restrictions on parking and participants do not get any kind of preferred parking at PNVC. It's still a free-for-all!

I think I'll be hoping for warm enough temps on Sat with the inferno crowd.

The eastside looks like a bust but I have a free day tomorrow. Does anyone have view on the Cog and related ravines and whether they might be soft enough given their western aspect and likely temps?
May have to head to lower elevations if Oakes and Ammo are out as well. Scraping bottom but Doublehead may make the list if they still have snow (I may have to bring my mountain bike).

I don't have rog's fancy martian de-coder ring ;), but I typically look at the weather for a nearby area, in this case, Twin Mountain, and make a guess based on that and the higher summits forecast. Sun can make ALL the difference of course and Friday is looking to be sunny and low 40s in TM. However, it's going to be a lot colder on the summits with highs in the single digits with winds 30-45 decreasing to 20-35 mph. In my world, that's not too promising, but I tend to be pretty conservative and head up when it's more of a sure bet.
Less wind and slightly higher temps, well, then I might give it a go.
