Hi all
Im new to New England, and am in need of back country ski buddys to A) ski with because as we all know heading out by yourself is not a good idea. and B) Teach me some of the backcountry opportunities available in the New England area. I have done some reading (Back country skiing New england book, which is an OK start) Any way I ski, (on Dynafits if you cant tell by the name) and usually head up to the mountains on Fridays from the Boston area.
Skied the Cog yesterday with an out of town friend and am pumped by some of the ski terrain I see in that area. Thanks much!:jumpturn:

Right off it's pretty clear you are here for the skiing. My guess is finding folks to ski with will be easy because you just went out where those folks often are!
The Cog parking deal depends on everyone being respectful of the Cog property. Fortunately, nearly everyone knows that and generally behaves that way anyhow, so that's "no worries".
I'll take another guess that you have and can use your avalanche beacon. If so, that will be another plus for hooking up. If not, well, it's a game changer in that your travels would be a bit constrained. After all, The Presidential Range is well known for avalanches and some of them get very destructive. Just a year ago we had a couple that chewed up many acres of stout trees, creating over a quarter mile of new run-out.
Nevertheless, there's still plenty to do and as Spring approaches your options will open up more. Stay tuned and say hello to folks in the BC.

Thanks RR. Yeah I have a beacon and all the goods and know how to use them, and am looking forward to using them more often (not for rescue, for keeping me and ski partners safe in the unfortunate occurrence of a slide) Hope to get up there soon, depending on finding a some partners to ski with!

I had to post just to say I like your screen name.
No doubt you'll be meeting plenty of skiers just by doing what you're doing.
Happy skiing.

I want to back country snowboard this weekend...seen a nice run near the AMC highland hut, and I'm liking for somebody to join me. I'd hate to do it alone, as we all know that's dangerous. Anyone interested? And am I allowed to post my phone number in this forum?
I know a nice motel 20 mins away where I will stay, I really hope someone will join! I don't have the experience to Hike up Tucks however :(

Welcome dynafiddle! This is a good place to hang out. Meet up with some T4T folks and you'll quickly be linked into an extensive BC social network that includes T4T and many others. Post when and where you are going or jump on board when someone else posts a meet up. Very welcoming crowd, this is.

I'll own up to the fact that I haven't sold off my Freerides because if I need a no fiddle binding to click into on a precarious perch, I feel more secure stepping in. That said, the down is better than the up on a Dynafit! And that is saying something, cause the up is pretty darn good. :D

Rog, from what I have been reading sounds like you have had some great days week! Rivercoil, the up and the down have been pretty sweet on my set up! Except for the occaisonal fiddle moments. I love them though, ft12 bindings mounted to the dynafit stoke ski. Super light set up, that will handle anything, and the stoke skis like a dream! I am thinking of hitting up someplace Sunday, if i can find someone to tag along with. Anyone going to be out sunday? I wanted to go up friday but, the impending snow makes for a long drive from Boston. :skicool:

Hi, I am from Montreal, I have a couple of backcountry friends who are hard to move "so far" and I want to go to MW soon, most likely on the WE of april 9, 16 and maybe easter. If conditions are right and schedules coincide, I am willing for a meet up somwhere.
