First I must say hi to a great bunch on a great board!! What I'm intersted in knowing is what type, make, size of ski that most are using. Plus would these be rock skis or good skis. Great site, and will be here often lurking and posting!!

Welcome artimus001!
There are a few issues to consider when choosing which skis/board you are going to use on your trek to Tucks...
Conditions: if its spring time and you plan to skiout from the headwall and the Sherburne trail under marginal conditions then your rock skis are highly recommended. As well if its a warm spring day, there is no need for your best skis. If there is excellent coverage, or conditions are icy then you might want to choose a better pair suited for ice.
Weight: if you have collected several skis over the years, take a light short pair... easier to carry up, and shorter skis are more useful for navigating the headwall than long GS skis (unless your Toni Matt's twin bro).
Then again I bet rentals are cheap in the spring...
P.S.: Your from London I see. Great place! My wife is from London Ont (Dorchester to be exact). Thats a bit of a trek to Pinkham!
Cheers

Thanks for the warm welcome Dave. I used to work in Dorchester not that long ago, and used to live in Glouster (sp) back in the '80s. I'd rather be out there now that I've gotten back into skiing. The valley is alot closer to better skiing then here in London.

Ah yes Boler (Mountain) no doubt... actually had my first date with my wife at Boler. Heard something about them trying to replace the t-bars with chairlifts for the boarders. Guess 'Hill 2000' is going to be 'Hill 2005' maybe?

The Bump....nuf said.. :(
I recall hearing something about the T-bars being replaced but nothing that I would go to the bank with. I think that by the time that the club gets all the funds needed to top off the new hill, contouring, and a chair it could be '05 +. The good news is that they've increased the vert to 250' from the 200.
Man this is embarassing to post!!! :D

Like Dave suggests, I generally take the lightest pair of skis I have! cept I just blew out an edge at Mad River this last weekend and they may now be done for... next lightest it is...
Whatever you take they ought to well tuned.

crank up the DIN setting on the bindings baby!
with the soft snow, steep pitch, and slow speed wanted I ski at a 13-15. You dont want them unfers coming off on the headwall.
confucious say tweaked knee better than massive head trauma...

Question: Never having rented skis to potentially destroy the bases, (i.e. rocks, brush, mud, lost equiptment, other obstacles, etc) what do the rental places say/do if you bring something back trashed out? Or is there purchasable insurance? I've been skiing for like 20+ years and never gave this any consideration.
:skicool: Have fun, be safe. Al

Skicdave: Question: I wanted to input to the poll that was up and it has been closed. WHEN did it go up? How did I miss it? Al
