what about the bigelow's, mt. abraham, (great snowfields) and a killer looking gully on the south ridge between spaulding and loaf, saddleback jr., crocker glacial cirques? the biggest problem is access, u def. need to get out the maps and do ur own recon up that away, not like the whites (no major highways and rds. and hiking trails everywhere ya look, lots of dirt rds. up there that are closed in the winter, got a sled or a tent?) I've hiked it all in the summer and have always wanted to explore in the winter.. However when I go up that away I usually just ride the chairs of loaf and s.back, but love earning at those spots pre-opening and post closing.. the great thing about s.back is there are short snowfields and great tree runs and low crowds mid-week, great choice for u!! When ya figure out the goods pm me;)
However if ur looking for bc close to Portland no need to look any further than the whites..
p.s. hopefully somebody will post on this thread and drop some 1st hand knowledge of ski routes up in the longfellows (I highly doubt it)
