There's a nice crust on the heavy snow from last night.

Break out the crust busters! :skicool:

Mtw avy report says:

....At Hermit Lake the crust is about .1” (6mm) thick and buried 2.5” (6cm) down from the surface where wind hasn’t either torn it apart or buried it deeper.* It is unclear how the crust developed in the start zones but we do know that the summit received their share of thunder-driven ice pellets last night.....

They don't go into the upside down snow pack from last night's episode, but they emphasize that it's ready to rip out, if it hasn't already done so.

Crazy storm. Freezing rain with thunder last night in central NH. First time I have ever experienced that.

Did a lap on the Carriage Road on Moosilauke today. Crust was most noticeable from ~3500-4250 lower than that there was several inches of fluff over it and above that the storm appeared to stay all snow.

Cannon summit was closed Sunday (tram and chair) due to adverse snow conditions and poor visibility. There was a combination of wind blown ice, crust and pow drifts. Ski patrol couldn't ski it so they closed it to save carting yahoos down the mountain.

Nice crusty mank skiing today.....

Nice crusty mank skiing today.....Western margins of the North facing trails had little if any ice. Maybe the trees stopped the rain from hitting the snow due to diagonal rain. It was worse on Cannon than On Jackson.

I think the heat came right up the Notch, up SB and into LL but was pretty well blocked from breaking out on the NW side of the Massif.

Trees on upper mtn at Cannon skied VERY nicely today. Untouched thanks to the closures yesterday. Minimal crust: hardly noticeable, very manageable
