Hey -
I was just up there on Friday for my first time. The following is a copy of a quick report I sent to a friend of mine. Also, the photos will show some thoughts about where to ski. Of course, it was my first time, so just add this to the other info on the site.
I did in fact head up and ski Tuckermans yesterday. Condidtions are so-so, but we had a great time and the skiing was better than I expected with runs about 500 ft vertical. I attached a few photos to give you an idea of what to expect. Overall, I definitely think its worth dragging the heavy metal up there, just for the views.
The trail to the bowl is only a couple miles and dry for almost all of it. I"m sure you will see hundreds of people up there skiing, boarding, sledding, and everything else. The weather looks to be great, and the bowl really is spectacular. Tell your friend to bring a chair, pad, and a book while you make a few runs.
The skiing starts early, and should be good until
around 3-4, when the shadows start pulling over and cooling things off. We left the car around 10:00, but I would leave around 8:30 if I was going again. That leaves more time to ski before it gets really slushy.
One of the pictures I attached has green and red lines to show you where to ski and where to avoid. The red circles are huge ice blocks that are ready to tumble off, making lunch rocks a poor place to hang out. We saw icefall rip through there yesterday, so set up your hangout area on the left.
Hope it helps. Also, check out timefortuckermans.com for more info.
