Can't wait to go to snowbird in Feb. I hit Alta last year and might have to take a day or two to do it again this year.
Since my favorite places rarely have any buildings, those look like good places to start....
Backcountry rules!

Right about now....snow rules.
Well, we can still get to the backcountry, it just takes longer without the snow ;)
Pulling down on rock is almost as good as skiing!

I've heard nothing but good things about Snowbird and I do plan on going there someday. But for now my favorite place without question is Jackson Hole WY.

I am torn between Mt. Baker and Big Sky right now. I need to get back to BS this season as my spring trip this year only scratched the surface tho I think that Baker will always be my fav.

BC I agree, Jackson with freshies is probably as good as it can get, with a lift, in the states. Snowbird might be #2, just due to Jackson's acreage (Hobacks). That premise might even be worth reevaluating with the Snowbird's Mineral Basin expansion and the Alta connection.
On the other hand Snowbird with the goods beats out Jackson with out them. And that happens a good amount of the time.
This will be my 20th season skiing at Snowbird. I haven't missed a season since I graduated from college and could afford to go there. I love showing people how to access the good stuff. I'm usually there the last week in March.

Love the pic, Castlerock.
I thought Snowbird would be too commercial for you guys. Guess you just can't beat that tram into the back bowl.

yes, out west has it's charms! steamboat, snowbird, jackson hole, squaw, and blah blah blah i LOVE them ALL. BUT i truely feel at home when i'm hiking for the goods and ripping the trees at Smugglers Notch, anywhere and everywhere. oh yeah, and Madonna lift line gets my balls in my throat, and butterflies in the stomach EVERY time.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm wiiiiiiinterrrrrrr...

IMHO...
Park City is like Killington with a bowl....
I'd skip it personally....

Actually, Park City doesn't deserve that much credit. KMart's slopes compare favorably with it's competition. It just has the crowd factor. Park city can't compare favorably with any of the four Big and Little Cottonwood resorts.
BG, you must spend more time in Little Cottonwood. (Hook up with some locals!) I love Alta, (especially the day after the storm) but Snowbird has more stuff. I admit it is a bit harder to find the entrances (not easily visible from the lifts) and it is more difficult. But if steeps are to your liking, you won't find more (and more variety) than the Tram in the SLC area.

-BG There's a slight possibility that we have to change our plans to 2/28 - 3/06. Maybe we'll be on the same flight, Tucks junkies travelling to utah.

Utah. And the snow quality is so nice, you can really :skiplow: the steeps.
Love those steeps. :lips:
Makes my heart soar just to think about them...
The mogul runs around SLC are terrific too.

Favorite? Taos was just beyond amazing. Alta was somewhere beyond that. And if Las Lenas had a good base, uber pow pow, and no avi? I'd die of heart failure....
Still, where's my "favorite" place to ski? MRG. The vibe there is super-special.

IMHO...
Park City is like Killington with a bowl....
But not just *any* bowl. A great big, 270 degree bowl, with almost no people, where soft freshies can be found days after a storm, where there are endless lines of trees, bumps, steeps, a veritable playground. Hrumph. Dissin' my playground...
NH Ski, we haven't booked yet, but will likely fly out early A.M. Let me know if your plans change.

Been to the bowl, Skiied Machete, Puma, McConkeys, etc....Nice, fun.
If you liked those, You'll love, Baldy, Keyhole, Scotties, Tower 3, Daltons, Mach Schnell, Lone Pine, Wilber Bowl and Chute, Barry Barry, Restaurant Row, the Rastas, Tiger Tail each one of those containing multiple lines.
Frankly, its all good out there, just be sure to give Snowbird a real chance. It will not disappoint.

Hrumph. Dissin' my playground...Not at all... It is a bowl... And it does have snow... All excellent things!
But you can get sooooo much more of those kind of things at other mountains...

Hey, let's not forget about Brighton. I've been to every ski area in the Big and Little Cottonwood canyons (excluding alta) and i agree that its hard to beat Mineral basin. But if you're planning to ski multiple days, definitely try out Brighton. There's great skiing to be found in Mount Millicent's bowl, and in the boundary between it and the main mountain. I also wasn't disappointed with Solitude's skiing. Trust me, they're not kidding about their name.

I've spent a week skiing Little Cottonwood Canyon. 3 days @ the Bird, and 4 @ Alta. I like Alta's vibe a lot better, and (sorry to all snowboarders on this site) I think the traverse & snow quality is generally better without snowboarders (although it's mainly just the bad ones that make a difference).
Both are amazing mountains though, and it's pretty hard to beat the Baldy Chutes if they're open!
If I went back there, I'd definitely skip Park City, Deer Valley, and The Canyons. Never skied Big Cottonwood, so can't comment, but I will say that Snowbird & Alta have enough terrain to keep you busy exploring for a lot longer than a week!
