Who's skiing Saturday?
Okay with exciting snow totals coming in from Vermont and NH, like Killington Peak with 12", Stowe 9", Sugarbush 6", and Mt. Washington with 5.3" and more snow showers forecast above 2,000ft.
Who will be skiing somewhere today?
I wanna see pictures of anyone playing in the snow. Reports of the fun that was had. I will be working and as excited as I am, I will need to vicariously experience this first real snowfall through other T4Ter's.
So throw me a bone and post some reports, please.......
have some fun for me:)

Some pic's from Kmart today. ~18" of ultra dense snow on top made for perfect coverage across the entire top 1/3 of the mountain. Middle third was fun but sloppy maybe a foot deep, bottom third was slidable all the way back to the car.

No action shots because I was by myself, but you can still get a sense for the quality/depth.

I was hearing rumors all over the mountain that they would try to open tomorrow or monday. When I sent them a tweet about it they denied the rumors. They had the groomers and lift maintenance people out in full force. Other than not being ready with staffing and/or repairs and maintenance there is NO reason they couldn't open the K1 with Great Northern connecting to Rime and the Glades triple. The snow was so dense that even after the groomers were cruising around it and it was pretty compacted it was still maybe a foot deep.

with 0" of snow at pinkham, .5" at tucks, and 5.3" at the summit, might be a tough sell at the rockpile on monday nate...

there were a few entertaining turns to be had in the right spots. lot's of sticky i'll bet. monday may be too late if it wasn't already by noon today. maybe if the temps dropped to the teens tonight followed by some sun and warm temps tomorrow, you'd have some semi nice pseudo corn.

maybe december

none of this early season snow on grass interests me, never has. i only ski on a base. i'll wait for the WROD at the river or some up high gully skiing once they fill in (last year that was december 2nd). sold my skis, so i only have my rugged tourers anyway. i should get some new skis/binders in a month or so.

plus, i'm racing my mtb tomorrow. should be fun and VERY painful :D

soon enough, good luck nato!

I did not get out, for lack of willing partners in crime who know better than I how to avoid the lurking hazards (as well as poach-busters), but I just found this report posted by a friend who did. Well, make that FORMER friend. He never invited me!

I have fantasized about poaching this mountain that I have been boycotting for years. (I plan to never again PAY to ski it.) Alas, it remains an elusive item on my bucket list.

Here's what I missed :envy:

Saturday, a crew of the Sugarbush faithful went over to General Stark Mountain, approaching from partway up App Gap. The skied from the top of the Double to about 300 feet above the Basebox.

14 or so inches of the heavy snow up top and no reports of dings or nicks to skis.

So far...so good.

We were about half way up when Todd said something along the lines of "hey what is that moose doing?" Which, as it turned, out was a fair and normal question given the fact that a huge moose was lumbering down the trail. Carrie, who fails at seeing wildlife, started to turn to look and poof the moose was gone, replaced by a skier. He came up to us and mumbled something about thinking the moose was a snowboarder or something close to that.

Mumbled?!?!?

More like:
"He came up to us (violently clashing as shown in the picture against the all-white background in his green hat, purple windshirt, yellow backpack, black pants, and white rando race boots) and proceeded to exclaim in a barely coherent manner -- most likely due to some combination of having made his first turns since July on a very nice Powerline and an absolutely pristine Upper East Fall -- something about thinking he had Upper East Fall all to himself, only to see a rather rotund snowboarder in very ugly & baggy earthtone attire, which he eventually realized was instead a moose. He then skied Lower East Fall [which is shown a bit earlier in the day in the picture of the moose], which unfortunately was a bit past its prime. After that, he proceeded to take six more runs on a Cascade > Flume combination, before eventually calling it a day after over 8100' vertical during the all-too-brief 5+ hour time slot in between Mommy weeekend sleep-in time and Baby dinner time coupled with a two-hour drive each way."

Or something like that....either way, the summit had at least two feet (the very steep part of Upper Upper Cascade was absolute perfection, especially since nobody else skied it all day except for me), and it was by no means one of those early-season snow-on-grass cautious skiing outings (although personally I’ve found 6" on well-mowed moderate-angle slopes to be very enjoyable and safe in prior seasons, but that’s an entirely moot point given this Saturday’s conditions).

Geeeeezus!! UNREAL!! If I hadn't enjoyed three absolutely perfect days of fall climbing in the Gunks this past weekend, I'd be pretty pissed that I missed out on this! Way to get it!

By the way, I know I'm a facebook creep but I see you went to OSU. Know Darwin Barney, Kevin Gunderson or Ben Rowe by chance?

I'm actually dating Darwin's sister... Funny you should ask. Do you know those guys? Or just follow college/pro baseball?
