The exisitance of an updated David Goodman guide was news to me, so I wanted to pass it on... I wasn't even looking for skiing books, but it showed up as a recommendation based on past searches.
I just received my copy of the new book, "Best Backcountry Skiing in the Northeast" AMC 2010. It covers trails in NH, ME, MA, VT and NY. I've just skimmed it thus far, but my mouth is already watering for some fresh powder!
There's more info on the West side, and some passing acknowledgment that some of the routes in the previous books are not in the best of shapes for linked turns these days. Hopefully that will help avoid some of the unpleasant bushwhacking I experienced last season following the old guide.
The best part is that it's in print, which means that you don't have to search high and low for the benefit of paying inflated prices to enjoy it!

west side won't be good this year. all storms will come in on w/nw winds. west side only skis that well once every decade or so.

West side was already mentioned in Goodman's previous edition. If you read the Oakes Gulf section, it briefly mentions exiting via Monroe gulf. I think it recommends ascent via Ammo Ravine Trail which although not the easiest route should plant the seed. I think it also mentions "other options" or something like that over there.
About damn time they updated it and combined two books into one. This would be an especially viable update if further separation of touring from AT/Boarding was highlighted and attention was brought to hiking trails on which turns are not easy (as mentioned above).
I won't be updating my copies though. These are great books to open your mind when you are first starting to earn turns. Once you know what to look for, these are really only the basic and most well known routes... most of which already have substantial beta online for free. Goodman does provide good history though and is worthy of a read from everyone at least for that perspective.

Sounds good to me, I like to read about places I ski, its interesting reading other's point of view on things familiar.
And obviouslly learning new spots is a PLUS.
I'm not going to stand on an elitist soap box and complain about secrets being spoiled and try to devalue the information put together.
If you can't see multiple points of value in a book like this you are just plain ignorant, or a selfish elitist.

I'll second that. Respect the mountain, respect others (even the ignorant and the selfish elitists, though that's not easy...)

haha nice cover...
It will be interesting to see how things shape up this year in the area in question if we don't get so many easterly winds...
may eliminate the need for soapboxes altogether.

I was flipping through the new book at work yesterday. The west side info is pretty much what you'd expect, but who cares. I think it was a good idea to combine the NH/ME book and the VT/NY. Plus, there is some new stuff in there for tours to the Maine huts.

Amazon $13.57
I think it's nice to have it all under one cover again.
I never purchased his Maine & NH book but downloaded some of his tours from Trails.com.
