Rain isn't all it is cracked up to be. You won't melt! Seriously, if it is cool enough to leave on rain gear, it is kind of fun to hike in the rain. (unless you are trying to climb Huntington's or something silly like that)

Hiking in the rain can be alot of fun. It's a good challenge to see if you can keep the stuff in your pack dry, and when you get home, there's nothing like changing into some dry clothes and relaxing :D

HEY EVERYONE !!! I HAD AN AWSOME DAY...
WE DID IT ANYWAY... WOOT.
I left here CT at 730am. I didnt intend on doing Mt.Monadnock because of all the dumb weather reports.
So.
I went to Hogsback Mtn and hiked around the old ski area there.. That was cool seeing the old lifts and lift houses.
I saw an Owl.
Then I had breakfast at the skyline Diner right there on the ridge over looking Northern New England.
It started to rain a little but I still could see Mt.Monadnock in the distant west. It called out to me.
After I ate, I told my girlfriend "lets just go over there and see whats brewing" IT WORKED !!
so we went over there.. Next thing you konw I had my pack on and we were hiking up...
WOOT !
We got about 1/2 way up at around 2pm today and at this point we havent seen anyone go up besides us.. Only people comming down.
I talked with a few people and they told me that it was about 22F up at the summit and it had in the range of 40-60 MPH winds up there..
I knew that Susan really didnt want to be in that kind of enviroment so we headed down.
Thats ok though, I got some neat pics
and Im going back in two weeks to the summit !
CANT WAIT.. it will be peak leaf peepin time too.
The day started out as a huge disapointment cause I didnt think we were even going to leave CT. Susan Dosent really like the Rain.
But we hiked two Mtns today, in VT, and NH..
SO it was great, I wish I could of made it to the summit but in two weeks I will.
Ill play with some of my pics, and if anyone wants to see them Ill see if Dave will post one.
Cya all

Posting photo for NtrentT... nice!!
Here is a pic I stitched together from Mt.Monadnock, It gives you an idea of how the foliage is coming along, not to mention the nice MTN.
Didn’t make it to summit, Didn’t want to freeze the girlfriend. I guess it was 22 at summit with Very high winds, and it started to rain half way up, ( I didn’t mind, but she did) so we came back down, but it was nice to get out and hike for a bit though.
Ill be going back in two weeks, to the summit.

The important question... did you see any snow?

I didnt see any snow , but the summit was definatily cold enough though. And it was raining where we were, so If it was 22 up there like everyone was saying, I bet it was snowing up there.

Great. Thanks for the pic. Can't wait to see more photos in two weeks.
Kewl pix! Foiliage looks about the same as the Mad River Valley. Went flying r/c planes up there this weekend. Nice to fly the planes with such an awsome backround. Little bit breezy for easy flying, but fun none the less.

I did an overnighter in the Franconia ridge area Sat. night. You people are right. You won't melt in the rain.I actually prefer it(good coolant process).Started up Sat 3pm in the rain.Pitched a tent and got a fire going in the rain.I didn't see any snow at the summits of Flume and Liberty but I did get pelted by hail.

I did get pelted by hail. Hail is skiable.... Actually rode some in Vail druing a thunderstorm... wild...

I wanted to climb the summit but my girl was sorta sick, she has a cold, I didnt want to make it worse.
But in two weeks, were going back.
I love that Rock Stair Case, on the white dot trail.
That was awsome
