With news of temperatures in the 80's on Tuesday, we decided Monday afternoon to head out to Tuckerman's early the next morning. It was bluebird skies, little to no wind and very warm. We hiked the left gully twice and came down the left gully and the chute. The footholds were big and snow was soft for easy hiking up. Only about 75 people in the ravine. We were sitting up top in just a t-shirt and were hot. The only warning was of ice falling into the bottom of the bowl. Three decent sized hunks of ice broke off the headwall and headed down the ravine at some sledders and kids hitting a jump they built. No one was hit. Shelburne trail is already closed about a mile from the end and will probably be completely closed by the weekend due to very warm weather and the 3 inches of rain from Sunday. If you don't particularly care about your equipment you can mudslide some sections and make it significantly farther as was our choice which resulting in no extra damage. I know I'm not into hiking 2.4 miles out after exerting myself so much hiking in and riding, so I figured I let you know what you're in for. Best trip yet.
