Does any one have any predictions for doing Tuck's on Saturday? Is the avalanche warning likely to drop with the predicted forecasts?
let's wait and see how things slide with the present rain concerns. with the temps shooting up. I personally might be more worried about ice fall.
regardless, sitting in this chair, I can confidently say that something will be good to snowslide on one or two planks up there on Saturday. that right there is an armchair prediction of no scientific value whatsoever.
but I wish I could be there on Saturday, FWIW.
Somewhere in another thread Roger opined that Undermining and Runnels might be problematic. I think he's onto something. The forecasted temps are very warm for the next 4-5 days.
Watch it out there!

ya, unless we get a good hard refreeze or forecasted temps drop a bit, i'll be steering pretty much clear of rocklined anything or anything else much above 37 degrees, espcially with rollover. good thing there are so many options this season that offer tons of vert that avoid said terrain and angles. i expect to hear reports of a, "last years inferno $hit show", wet slide action in the ravine on fri or sat when things heat up and the pilgrims are doing stupid $hit not one at a time and on top of each other or holding hands on the descent.
this isn't looking too promising, although thurs could be the best in decades following wed night freeze. after that, i go to loon. the temps for george on fri/sat will be hazardous to even watch........sherbie? kiss it goodbye. approaching in the tennies by next week.
could be scary:http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Jackson&state=NH&site=GYX&textField1=44.1442&textField2=-71.1814&e=1

Its too soon to tell what avy conditions will be like when all the rain is said and done, but one could pretty much come to the conclusion that it won't be ideal. For this weekend I would be more concerned with both the runnels/openings forming in the snowpack (little headwall will be dicey), as well as icefall.
That being said, there is one guarantee for the weekend given the forecast, and that is that the bowl will be crowded. One only needs to experience a sh*tshow weekend like this once to know that there are much better times to hit the bowl.

There were times I liked that sort of thing.

Bring your swim trunks... forecasted temps in Jackson = 89 degrees!!!!
It'll be cooler in the ravine, say 72 degrees... last time I checked, not ideal for snowpack preservation or stability. On the plus side, we may see some impressive wet slides open up some new terrain for next year.
Depressing...

I agree with rog.... wet slides likely but I'm not saying it'll happen. Just use caution. In the mid '80's I was up there in similar and there was a lot of runnels making any sweeping turns a ride through pothole country on your local main street. It was a nice break from the heat in the valley but I didn't enjoy it as much for sliding. Ice was breaking loose making bowling for gawkers a sport to watch.
The lower headwall was raging and flooded the lower part of the ravine trail by the pond (and now the well) just past HoJo's.
You'll find me on lower angles OR somewhere with less overhead hazards this weekend.
Best to watch closely any and all daily reports from on high.

Roro and PW8s--well said. Crazy that we go from freezing to sweltering in one week.
Sigh.
On the bright side? It's only Tuesday, and it's New England. We'll see what we see.

Be careful with info you get anywhere else - i.e. Please don't decide "T4T said it'd prob. be okay - I'll just go on that info."

the avi report should be the 1st go to info for anyone traveling in avi terrain, but avi reports are primarily focussed in one or two areas on one side of the mountain and may not accurately portray what is happening in other areas. this is where observations from folks out and about can come in handy.
sure, who knows who knows what. it is up to the readers to decide for themselves as adults.
i'm looking forward to making my own observations in the field tomorrow and friday. forecasted temps are dropping a bit, could be really good up there.

For what it's worth, we'll be there tomorrow... early in the morning... Make a day out of it... Hopefully, it won't be too crowded. Since i'm going with my girlfriend and a first timer, i planned on doing easy and safe stuff... Pretty much tag the summit, lap the snowfields... and come down the same way we came up... Unless by buddy shows up, then there will be 2 of us to assess the situation once there.
Gorgeous temps like this made a great outting 2 years ago...
